자신을 넘어 그 이상을 생각하십시오

“자신의 방식을 앞세우지 말고, 그럴듯한 말로 자신의 방식을 내세우지 마십시오. 자기를 제쳐 두고 다른 사람이 잘 되도록 도우십시오. 자기 이익을 꾀하는 일에 사로잡히지 마십시오. 자신을 잊을 정도로 도움의 손길을 내미십시오.”(빌 2:3-4, 메시지성경)
“그러므로 내가 첫째로 권하노니 모든 사람을 위하여 간구와 기도와 도고와 감사를 하되 임금들과 높은 지위에 있는 모든 사람을 위하여 하라 이는 우리가 모든 경건과 단정함으로 고요하고 평안한 생활을 하려 함이라 이것이 우리 구주 하나님 앞에 선하고 받으실 만한 것이니 하나님은 모든 사람이 구원을 받으며 진리를 아는 데에 이르기를 원하시느니라”(딤전 2:1-4).
기도와 사역과 사람을 통해 세상을 바꾸는 것은 우리의 책임입니다. 이것이 당신이 해야 할 일입니다. 그렇지 않다면, 인생을 헛산 것입니다. 느헤미야 4:14에서 이스라엘 자손들이 예루살렘 성벽을 쌓기 시작하고 방어할 태세를 갖출 때 느헤미야는 백성들에게 “… 너희 형제와 자녀와 아내와 집을 위하여 싸우라”고 말했습니다. 그는 “너 자신을 위해서 싸우라”고 말하지 않았습니다. 이 구절에서 “집”이라는 단어는 건물을 의미하지 않습니다. 당신이 “요셉 가문”이라고 말하듯이 느헤미야는 일가와 전체 가족을 의미한 것입니다. 그는 백성들 안에 있는 승리자의 정신을 불러일으켰습니다.
승리자는 자신을 위해 싸우지 않습니다. 그는 다른 사람들을 위해 싸웁니다. 이것이 우리가 오늘 본문 구절에서 읽은 내용입니다. “자기를 제쳐 두고 다른 사람이 잘 되도록 도우십시오. 자기 이익을 꾀하는 일에 사로잡히지 마십시오.” 기도할 때 항상 자신의 사업, 가족 혹은 당신과 관련된 일들에 대해서만 기도해서는 안 됩니다. 당신의 기도는 더 큰 목적을 위한 것이어야 합니다. 자신을 넘어 그 이상을 생각하십시오.
우리가 기도해야 할 수많은 상처를 가진 사람들이 많습니다. 성경은 주 예수님은 우리의 연약함을 동정하는 분이시라고 말합니다(히 4:15). 죄인들과 당신 주변에 있는 힘들어하는 사람들의 상황에 연민을 느끼십시오. 가난한 자들, 병든 자들, 억눌린 자들의 곤경이 당신 안에서 긍휼함을 불러일으켜 그들을 위해 중보하고 오늘날 그들의 삶에 변화를 일으키도록 하십시오. 특히 이 마지막 때에 우리는 세상의 국가들, 지도자들, 사람들을 위한 중보를 계속해야 합니다.
기도
복되신 아버지, 다른 사람들을 위해 그 사이에 서서 그들의 삶과 환경을 변화시킬 수 있는 기회를 주심에 감사드립니다. 오늘 구원받도록 예정된 전 세계 사람들에게 영광스러운 복음의 빛이 비춰지고, 어둠이 물리쳐지며, 그들이 하나님의 아들의 자유 안으로 옮겨지도록 기도합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

THINK BEYOND YOURSELF
Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top.
Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand (Philippians 2:3-4 MSG).
Timothy 2:1-4 says, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
It’s our responsibility to change the world through prayer, ministry and protagonism. That’s what you have to do. Otherwise, you haven’t lived.
In Nehemiah 4:14, as the children of Israel began to build the wall of Jerusalem and prepared to defend it, Nehemiah said to the people, “…fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.” He didn’t say, “Fight for yourselves.”
And the word “houses” there doesn’t mean buildings; he was referring to clans, whole families, like you’d say, “The house of Joseph.” He was calling out the champion spirit in them.
Champions don’t fight for themselves; they fight for others. That’s what we read in our theme verse; it says, “Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead.
Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage.”
When you pray, it shouldn’t always be about your business, your family or things related to you; it should be for a greater cause. Think beyond yourself.
There’re many who are going through a lot of hurt for whom we must pray. The Bible says of the Lord Jesus that He’s touched with the feeling of our infirmities (Hebrews 4:15). Be moved by the conditions of the sinners and others who are suffering around you. Let the plight of the poor, the sick, and the downtrodden stir compassion in you to intercede for them and cause a change in their lives today. We’re to continue in intercession for the nations, leaders, and peoples of the world, especially in these last days.
PRAYER
Thank you blessed Father, for the opportunity to stand in the gap for others, to cause a change in their lives and circumstances. I pray for those destined to receive salvation today all around the world, that the light of the glorious Gospel will shine in their hearts, dispelling the darkness, translating them into the liberty of the sons of God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
