우리는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하기 위해 삽니다
We Live To Please Him
“… 기도하기를 그치지 아니하고 구하노니… 주께 합당하게 행하여 범사에 기쁘시게 하고 모든 선한 일에 열매를 맺게 하시며 하나님을 아는 것에 자라게 하시고”(골 1:9-10)
당신이 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 일에 열의가 없다는 것을 발견한다면, 주 예수님을 향한 당신의 사랑에 물음표가 생깁니다. 당신이 진실로 주님을 사랑한다면, 당신의 심령의 갈망은 항상 그분을 기쁘시게 하는 것입니다. 당신은 그분을 삶의 가장 중요한 위치에 둘 것입니다.
하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 것이 중요한 이유는 무엇입니까? 우리가 그분께 속하고, 그분을 위해 살기 때문입니다. 이는 하나님의 자녀인 우리의 정체성에 관한 것입니다. 고린도후서 5:14은 말합니다. “… 한 사람이 모든 사람을 대신하여 죽었은즉 모든 사람이 죽은 것이라”
하나님은 당신의 하늘 아버지이실 뿐만 아니라 주님이십니다. 이것이 당신의 구원으로 이어집니다. 당신의 삶에 대한 그분의 주되심을 인정하고 고백하는 것입니다. 따라서 하나님을 기쁘시게 하기 위해 사는 것은 당신의 헌신에 대한 자연스러운 표현입니다. 이제 그분은 당신의 삶과 당신과 관련된 모든 것의 주인이시기 때문입니다.
주 예수님은 이 땅에 계실 때, 범사에 아버지를 기쁘시게 하는 방법을 우리에게 보여주셨습니다. 요한복음 8:29에서 예수님은 “… 나는 항상 그가 기뻐하시는 일을 행하므로…” 라고 말씀하셨습니다. 요한복음 5:30에서는 “… 나는 나의 뜻대로 하려 하지 않고 나를 보내신 이의 뜻대로 하려 하므로…” 라고 말씀하셨습니다.
예수님은 아버지를 기쁘시게 하려는 끊임없는 열망으로 사셨고, 우리도 같은 마음가짐을 받아들이고 성장하도록 권면하셨습니다. 예수님은 요한복음 6:38에서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “내가 하늘에서 내려온 것은 내 뜻을 행하려 함이 아니요 나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하려 함이니라” 그리고 요한복음 4:34에서는 아버지께 가장 감동적인 말씀을 하셨습니다. “나의 양식은 나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하며 그의 일을 온전히 이루는 이것이니라”
주님은 아버지의 뜻에 완전히 복종하며 사는 방법을 우리에게 보여주셨고, 모든 일에서 아버지를 기쁘시게 하셨습니다. 우리는 예수님을 본받아야 합니다. 하나님을 기쁘시게 하기 위해 사는 것보다 더 큰 기쁨과 성취는 없습니다. 예수 그리스도를 진심으로 사랑하고 그분처럼 사는 것보다 하나님을 더 기쁘시게 하는 일은 없습니다.
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 내 행동이 아버지의 완전한 계획과 일치하도록 말씀 안에서 아버지의 뜻을 가르치시고, 인도하시고, 계시해 주시는 성령님께 감사드립니다. 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 일의 기쁨은 내 삶의 원동력이며 나는 항상 하나님의 완전한 뜻 안에 행하기로 헌신합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

WE LIVE TO PLEASE HIM
“…We continually ask God…that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:9-10 NIV).
If you ever find that you’re not enthusiastic about pleasing God, then your love for the Lord Jesus is questionable. If you genuinely love the Lord, then your heart’s desire, always, would be to please Him; you want Him as the first place in your life.
Why is it important that we please Him? It’s because we belong to Him and we live for Him. It’s about our identity as His children. 2 Corinthians 5:14 says, “…he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”
He isn’t just your heavenly Father but also the Lord; and this is what led to your salvation—the acknowledgement or confession of His lordship over your life. Therefore, living to please Him becomes a natural expression of your devotion because now He’s Lord of your life and everything about you.
While the Lord Jesus walked this earth, He rehearsed to us how to please the Father in all things. In John 8:29, He said, “…for I do always those things that please him.” In John 5:30, He said, “… I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.”
Jesus lived with the constant desire to please the Father and encouraged us to adopt or cultivate the same mindset. Again, in John 6:38, He said, “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.” Then in John 4:34, He uttered some of the most inspiring words of assurance to the Father, “…My meat is to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work.”
The Master revealed to us how to live in total submission to the Father’s will, pleasing Him in all things. We’re to emulate Him. There’s no greater joy or fulfilment than living to please God. Nothing pleases Him more than one genuinely loving Jesus Christ, and living as He lived.
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the Holy Spirit who teaches, guides, and reveals your will to me in the Word so that my actions align with your perfect plan. The joy of pleasing you is the driving force in my life and I commit to walking in your perfect will always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
