“그가 어떤 사람은 사도로, 어떤 사람은 선지자로, 어떤 사람은 복음 전하는 자로, 어떤 사람은 목사와 교사로 삼으셨으니 이는 성도를 온전하게 하여 봉사의 일을 하게 하며 그리스도의 몸을 세우려 하심이라”(엡 4:11-12)
오늘의 본문 구절을 보면 사람들을 어떤 직분에 임명하거나 부르는 분은 하나님이라는 것을 명확하게 알 수 있습니다. 자신을 보면서 그저 “내가 가진 은사는 무엇일까?”라고 생각하며 특정 직분을 스스로 정하지 마십시오. 그런 식으로 되는 것이 아닙니다.
우리가 영적 청소년으로 성장할 당시에 스스로를 사역자라고 생각하던 사람들이 있었습니다. 그들은 자기들끼리 어떤 사람은 선지자로 어떤 사람은 사도로 각자 직분을 나눠 가졌습니다. 그러나 그들 중 몇몇은 오늘날 더 이상 그리스도인도 아닙니다. 그들은 수년 전에 믿음을 잃었습니다.
그들은 이런 일에는 성장이 필요하다는 것을 알았어야 했습니다. 심지어 사도로 부름 받은 바울조차도 사도로 시작하지 않았습니다. 성경은 안디옥 교회에 선지자들과 교사들이 있었고, 바울(사울로 불렸던 자)도 그들 중 하나였다고 말합니다(행 13:1). 그는 사도의 직분으로 부름 받았음에도 불구하고 그 당시에는 아직 사도로 불리지 않았습니다.
부르심에는 여러 수준이 있고, 당신의 삶의 특정 수준에서 부르심이 형성되고 있습니다. 그러나 주님께서 원하시는 것보다 더 빠르게 가지 마십시오. 성경은 “이 존귀는 아무도 스스로 취하지 못하고…”라고 말합니다(히 5:4). 스스로 존귀하게 여기지 마십시오. 사람들이 당신이 좋아하는 직분으로 당신을 부르지 않는다고 할지라도 무슨 상관입니까? 그저 해야 할 일만 하는 것이 낫지 않습니까? 사람들이 당신을 그 직분으로 부르는데도 당신이 그 일을 해내지 못하는 것이 더 안 좋습니다.
당신에게 합당하지 않게 존경받는 것은 옳지 않습니다. 그런 일들이 당신을 방해하지 못하게 하십시오. 하나님께 중요한 것은 다른 사람들에게 불려지는 직분이 아니라, 당신의 심령의 상태입니다. 위대함은 당신의 직분이나 다른 사람들로부터 받는 인정에 있지 않습니다. 위대함은 하나님과 함께 하는 당신의 성품에 있습니다.

사랑하는 주님, 주님께 사랑받고 부름 받을 수 있는 기회를 주셔서 감사합니다. 나는 복음을 전하고 영혼을 구원하고자 하는 주님의 뜻과 비전에 동기부여를 받습니다. 나는 복음 안에서 나의 부르심을 온전히 성취합니다. 나는 기쁨으로 복음의 빛을 가지고 어둠 가운데 사는 사람들에게 다가가는 위대한 사명을 받아들입니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

DON’T WORRY ABOUT TITLES
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12).
From our theme verse, it’s clear that it’s God who appoints or calls people into these ministry offices. You don’t just look at yourself and say, “What gift do I have?” and then apportion a name for yourself. It doesn’t work like that.
Back then, as we were growing up as spiritual adolescents, there were those who thought they had a ministry. I remember some who were called prophets, and some apostles; they distributed among themselves one office or the other. But some of those people today aren’t even Christians anymore; they left the faith years ago.
What they needed to understand was, there’s a growth to this thing. Even Paul who was called to be an apostle didn’t start out as an apostle. The Bible says there were certain prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch, and Paul (who was also called Saul) was named as one of them (Acts 13:1). He wasn’t yet called an apostle, even though he was called into the apostolic ministry.
The callings are at different levels. At a certain level of your life, it’s being formed, but don’t go faster than the Lord would want you to. The Bible says, “And no man taketh this honour unto himself…” (Hebrews 5:4). Don’t take the honour upon yourself. After all, does it matter if people don’t call you by the title you love? Isn’t it better to just do the work? It makes more sense, because if they call you by the title and then you don’t fulfil it, that’s not a good thing.
It’s not right to be respected for something you’re not. Never let such things bother you. What matters to God is the state of your heart; not the title by which you’re addressed. Greatness isn’t in your title or in the recognition you enjoy from men; it’s in the quality of your personality; who you are with God.

Dear Lord, thank you for the opportunity to be loved and called by you. I fulfil my calling in the Gospel without reproach, motivated by your will and vision of salvation of souls and dissemination of the truth. Therefore, I joyfully take up the great commission to reach out with the light of the Gospel to those living in darkness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
