Testify Of His Death
“…너희가 이 떡을 먹으며 이 잔을 마실 때마다 주의 죽으심을 그가 오실 때까지 전하는 것이니라”(고전 11:23-26)
마태복음 26:26-28, 마가복음 14:22-24, 누가복음 22:19-20은 예수님께서 배반당하시던 날 밤에 하신 말씀을 담고 있습니다. 누가복음 22:19-20은 말합니다. “또 떡을 가져 감사 기도하시고 떼어 그들에게 주시며 이르시되 이것은 너희를 위하여 주는 내 몸이라 너희가 이를 행하여 나를 기념하라 하시고 식후의 잔도 이와 같이 이르시되 이 잔은 너희를 위하여 흘리는 내 피로 세우는 새 언약이니.”
성령의 인도에 따라 사도 바울은 고린도전서 11:23-26에서 오늘의 본문 구절을 다시 한번 반복해서 말했습니다. 밑줄 그어진 “전하는 것” 부분에 주목하십시오. 이는 그리스어 “카탕겔로(kataggello)”에서 비롯되었으며, ‘선언하다, 선포하다, 알리다’라는 의미입니다. 당신은 성찬식을 할 때마다 주님의 죽으심을 선언하고, 선포하고, 알리는 것입니다. 이것은 어떤 유익을 위한 것입니까?
첫째로, 예수님께서 우리를 위해 흘리신 보혈의 의미를 이해하십시오. 우리는 영원히 예수님의 피의 의미를 이야기할 것입니다. 그분의 보혈이 당신의 죄를 제거하고, 깨끗케 하고, 어떤 일이 잘못되더라도 당신을 대변할 것입니다. 우리가 “그분의 보혈”이라고 말할 때, 우리는 실제로 그분의 죽음을 말하는 것입니다.
요한일서 2:2은 말합니다. “그는 우리 죄를 위한 화목 제물이니 우리만 위할 뿐 아니요 온 세상의 죄를 위하심이라.” 예수 그리스도의 보혈이 당신을 깨끗하게 합니다. 그분의 보혈이 우리로 생명을 얻도록 하나님과 화목하게 하셨습니다. 예수님께서 우리가 생명을 얻게 하기 위해 그분의 생명을 내어 주셨기 때문입니다.
예수님은 새로운 유언, 곧 신약을 그분의 보혈 안에서 세우셨습니다. 유언은 증언자가 죽기 전까지는 아무 효력이 없습니다. 따라서 우리가 그분의 죽음을 선언하는 이유는 하나님께서 예수님을 죽음에서 일으키셨기 때문이기도 하지만, 우리의 새로운 생명을 위해 그분이 죽으셨기 때문이기도 합니다. 예수님의 죽음은 하나님의 아들이자 아브라함의 자손으로 오신 예수 그리스도의 약속과 말씀의 확증입니다.
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 나를 위해 흘리신 예수 그리스도의 보혈에 영원히 감사드립니다. 이 보혈은 나의 모든 불의함을 나에게서 제거하시고, 나를 깨끗케 하셨습니다. 나를 대신한 그리스도의 대속적 죽음에 감사드립니다. 예수님의 부활로 인해 나는 이제 영원한 승리의 신성한 생명에 속했으며, 하나님과 같은 종류의 존재가 되었습니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

TESTIFY OF HIS DEATH
“For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come”(1 Corinthians 11:26).
The synoptic Gospels, Matthew 26:26–28, Mark 14:22–24, and Luke 22:19–20 capture for us the words of Jesus the night He was betrayed. Luke 22:19–20 tells us, “And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.”
The Apostle Paul, by the Spirit, reiterated this in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, part of which we read in our theme scripture. Notice the underlined word “shew”; it’s the Greek “kataggellō,” which means to proclaim, declare, and make known. As often as you take communion, you’re announcing, proclaiming, declaring, and making known the Lord’s death. What is the benefit of that?
First, understand the significance of His blood—which we will forever talk about—that He shed for us; that’s the blood that purges, cleanses and speaks for you when anything goes wrong. When we talk about “His blood,” we’re actually referring to His death.
1 John 2:2 says “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” The blood of Jesus Christ purifies you; it reconciles us to God by which we receive life, because He gave His life so that we might have life.
He made a new will—the New Testament in His blood. And a will is of no effect until the Testator dies. So, we proclaim His death, because we know God raised Him from the dead; but He died that we might live. His death is the ratification of the will or testament of Jesus Christ, the seed of Abraham and son of God.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I’m forever grateful for the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for me, which purges, cleanses, rids me of all unrighteousness! Thank you for Christ’s vicarious death in my behalf and by whose resurrection I’m now an associate of the God-kind, ushered into the divine life of unending victory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
