열정적인 기도
ENERGIZED PRAYER
“이와 같이 주의 말씀이 힘이 있어 흥왕하여 세력을 얻으니라”(행19:20)
만약 당신의 삶과 도시, 지역 또는 국가에서 어떤 변화를 원한다면, 당신은 효과적인 기도 즉 열정적인 기도를 통해 변화를 만들 수 있습니다. 바울은 효과적으로 기도하는 방법을 알고 있었습니다. 그의 효과적인 기도가 에베소와 다른 사역지에서 변화를 만들어냈습니다.
바울은 에베소에 2년 3개월 간 머무르며 온 에베소 지역을 뒤흔들었습니다. 성경은 “믿은 사람들이 많이 와서 자복하여 행한 일을 알리며”(행19:18) 라고 말합니다. 다시 말해, 그들은 우상 숭배와 이교도적인 관습들을 버리고 공개적으로 예수님의 주되심을 고백했습니다.
19절에서는 주술과 이단에 빠진 자들이 그리스도께로 회심했다고 말합니다. 바울은 어떻게 그 일을 성취할 수 있었습니까? 고린도전서 15:32에서 바울이 한 말을 통해 알 수 있습니다. “내가 사람의 방법으로 에베소에서 맹수와 더불어 싸웠다면 내게 무슨 유익이 있으리요…”
이 문맥을 공부해본다면 바울이 개인적으로 짐승을 만났거나 신체적으로 공격을 받았던 것이 아님을 알 수 있습니다. 바울은 분명히 영적인 것에 대해 말했습니다. 그는 영 안에서 일어난 일을 말했습니다. 오늘의 본문 구절을 떠올려 보십시오. “이와 같이 주의 말씀이 힘이 있어 흥왕하여 세력을 얻느니라.”
에베소에서 복음이 흥왕한 이유는 바울이 열정적으로 기도하는 법과 기도를 통하여 영 안에서 승리하는 법을 알았기 때문입니다. 성경은 말합니다. “의인의 효력 있고 뜨거운 기도는 많은 유익이 있느니라”(약5:16 한글킹제임스) 여기서 “효력 있고 뜨거운” 이라는 표현은 그리스어로 “에네르기오(energeō)”입니다. 다시 말해서, 의인의 “열정적인” 기도는 많은 유익이 있습니다. 할렐루야!
이것의 이해를 돕기 위해 야고보는 우리에게 엘리야의 기도를 예시로 설명하며 엘리야가 “간절히 기도”(약5:17)했다고 말합니다. “간절히 기도했다”는 말은 문자 그대로 엘리야가 “기도로 기도했다” 라는 강조를 위한 히브리식의 관용 표현입니다. 여기서 야고보는 엘리야의 기도의 강도에 대해서 말하고 있는 것입니다. 엘리야는 열정적인 기도를 했습니다.
오늘날 이 세상에는 우리가 엘리야처럼 간절히 기도해야 할 많은 일들이 일어나고 있습니다. 하나님의 자녀로서 당신은 사탄이 여러분의 세상과 그 너머 지역에서 일으키는 악한 일들을 중단시켜야 하는 책임을 갖고 있습니다.
기도
사랑하는 주님, 기도의 특권과 축복에 감사드립니다. 이제 나는 복음이 방해받지 않고 전파되어 말씀이 자유롭게 전달되고 영광 받기를 기도합니다. 나는 기도로 두려움, 폭력, 악함, 모든 종류의 불의를 대적합니다. 나는 당신의 왕국의 확장을 위한 평화, 발전, 안정, 그리고 번영을 선포합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

Energized Prayer
“So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed”(Acts 19:20).
If you desire certain changes in your life, your city, state or nation, you can make it happen through effectual prayers—praying with passion. Paul knew how to pray effectively; that was what changed Ephesus and other places where he ministered.
Paul was in Ephesus for two years and three months, and during that period, he shook up the whole place. The Bible says, “And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds” (Acts 19:18). In other words, they gave up idolatry and their heathen practices, and openly confessed the lordship of Jesus.
The 19th verse says those who had been into magic and cults were converted to Christ. How was Paul able to achieve this? He gave us an idea when he said in 1 Corinthians 15:32, “If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me….”
When you study the context, you don’t find where he personally encountered beasts or was physically attacked by wild beats. Evidently, Paul was speaking spiritually. He was referring to something that happened in the spirit. Recall what we read in our theme verse: “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”
The Gospel prevailed in Ephesus because Paul understood how to pray with passion, how to prevail in the spirit through prayer. The Bible says, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16). The phrase “effectual fervent” is “energeō” (Greek); and it means “energized.” In other words the “energized” prayer of a righteous man avails much. Hallelujah!
To drive this point home, James gives us the example of Elijah’s prayer and says, Elijah “prayed earnestly” (James 5:17). The phrase “prayed earnestly” literally means that Elijah “prayed with prayer,” giving it a Hebraistic form of emphasis. He was talking about the intensity of Elijah’s prayer. He prayed energized prayer.
There’re many things happening in our world today that should move us to pray intensely like Elijah did. It’s your responsibility as a child of God to put a halt to evil works masterminded by Satan in your world and in the regions beyond.
PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank you for the privilege and blessing of prayer. Now I pray for the unhindered spread of the Gospel, that your Word may have free course and be glorified. I pray against fear, violence, wickedness and all forms of injustice; I declare peace, progress, stability and prosperity, for the furtherance of your Kingdom, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
