천국은 약속이 아닙니다
Heaven Is Not a Promise
“우리의 시민권은 하늘에 있으므로 우리가 그 곳으로부터 오실 구주이신 주 예수 그리스도를 기다리고 있으니”(빌 3:20, 한글킹제임스)
우리가 하나님의 말씀 안에 있는 모든 약속이 새로운 피조물인 우리 안에서 이미 성취되었다고 말할 때 이렇게 질문하는 사람들이 있습니다. “그렇다면 천국은요? 우리에게 약속된 것이 아닌가요?” 천국은 약속이 아닙니다. 왜냐하면 우리가 그곳에서 태어났기 때문입니다. “그러나 너희가 이른 곳은 시온 산과 살아 계신 하나님의 도성인 하늘의 예루살렘과 천만 천사와 하늘에 기록된 장자들의 모임과 교회와…”(히 12:22-23)
오늘의 본문 구절을 다시 읽어보십시오. “우리의 시민권은 하늘에 있으므로”라고 말합니다. “우리는 천국의 시민이 될 것이다”라고 말하고 있지 않습니다. 우리는 지금 실제로 천국의 시민입니다. 예수님의 말씀을 기억하십시오. 그분이 유대인에게 “나는 위로부터 왔다”고 말씀하셨을 때, 예수님은 자신의 근원이 하늘이라는 것을 의미하셨습니다. 그분은 이 세상에서 살아가는 우리에 대해서도 “너희는 이 세상에서 나지 않았다”고 말씀하셨습니다. 그리스도인은 다른 두 세상에서 동시에 살고 있기 때문입니다.
이런 식으로 보십시오. 어쩌면 당신은 영국에 사는 미국 시민권자일 수도 있습니다. 당신이 미국에 살고 있지 않다고 해서 당신의 미국 시민권이 무효화되거나 미래의 약속이 되지는 않습니다. 그러므로 당신이 이 땅에 있다고 해서 당신의 천국 시민권이 보장하는 축복과 권리와 특권을 누리지 못하는 것이 아닙니다.
성경에 따르면 천국은 우리의 집입니다. 천국은 지금 우리에게 속했습니다. 우리는 그곳에서 태어났고, 지금 그곳에서 살고 있습니다. 시편 87:4-5은 이에 대해 말하고 있습니다. “나는 라합과 바벨론이 나를 아는 자 중에 있다 말하리라 보라 블레셋과 두로와 구스여 이것들도 거기서 났다 하리로다 시온에 대하여 말하기를 이 사람, 저 사람이 거기서 났다고 말하리니 지존자가 친히 시온을 세우리라 하는도다” 이 구절을 공부해보면, 당신은 그분이 시온에서 태어난 새로운 피조물을 말씀하고 계시다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 히브리서 12:22에 따르면 시온은 하늘의 예루살렘입니다.
새로운 탄생으로 우리는 하나님의 사랑의 아들의 왕국으로 옮겨졌습니다(골 1:13). 이것은 약속이 아니라 이미 성취된 일입니다. 그 왕국은 하늘의 왕국이며 하늘로부터 다스려지는 곳입니다. 할렐루야!
고백
나는 주 예수님처럼 이 세상에서 난 자가 아닙니다. 나는 천국에서 태어났으며 지금도 이 땅에서 천국의 삶을 삽니다. 그러므로 나는 천국의 축복과 권리와 특권을 인식하며 그것들을 충만하게 누립니다. 할렐루야!

HEAVEN IS NOT A PROMISE
We, however, are citizens of heaven, and we eagerly wait for our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, to come from heaven (Philippians 3:20 GNB).
When we say every promise in the Word of God has already been fulfilled in us the new creation, there’re those who ask, “What about heaven?
Isn’t that promised us?” Heaven isn’t a promise, because we were born there: “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven…” (Hebrews 12:22-23).
Also, read again our opening verse: it says, “We are citizens of heaven,” not “We shall be citizens of heaven.” You’re a bona fide citizen of heaven NOW. Recall the words of Jesus in John 8:23; He said to the Jews, “I’m from above”; referring to His heavenly origin. Then concerning us, He said, “You’re not of this world,” even though we live in this world. That’s because the Christian lives in two worlds contemporaneously.
Look at it this way: perhaps, you’re a citizen of the United States, living in the United Kingdom. The fact that you’re not living in the United States doesn’t nullify your American citizenship, neither does it make your American citizenship a promise. Therefore, that you’re in the earth doesn’t preclude you from enjoying all the blessings, rights and privileges of your heavenly citizenship.
According to the Bible, heaven is our home; it belongs to us now. We were born there, and live there NOW! Psalm 87:4-5 talks about it. It says, “I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there. And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.” When you study the context, you’d observe that he’s referring to the new creation who is born in Zion, which is the heavenly Jerusalem in Hebrews 12:22.
In the new birth, we were translated into the Kingdom of God’s Love Son (Colossians 1:13). This isn’t a promise; it’s already done. This is a heavenly kingdom, and operates from heaven. Hallelujah!
CONFESSION
Like the Lord Jesus, I’m not of this world; I’m born from heaven and live the life of heaven now in the earth! I’m conscious of my heavenly blessings, rights and privileges and I enjoy them to the full. Hallelujah!
