Being Baptized Into Christ
“하나님이 그들로 하여금 이 비밀의 영광이 이방인 가운데 얼마나 풍성한지를 알게 하려 하심이라 이 비밀은 너희 안에 계신 그리스도시니 곧 영광의 소망이니라”(골 1:27)
어떤 그리스도인들은 성령 안으로 침례 받는 일과 성령을 받는 일이 동일한 일이라고 오해합니다. 말씀에 따르면 이 두 가지 일은 동일하지 않습니다. 이 둘은 별개의 경험입니다.
실제로 당신이 그리스도께 나아와 영생을 얻을 때 일어나는 가장 첫 번째 경험은 그리스도 안으로 침례를 받고 그분 안에 깊게 잠기는 것입니다. 바울은 고린도후서 5:17에서 이에 대해 생생하게 묘사합니다. “그런즉 누구든지 그리스도 안에 있으면 새로운 피조물이라 이전 것은 지나갔으니 보라 새 것이 되었도다.”
따라서 그리스도 안에서 혹은 그리스도 안으로 태어나는 것은 곧 재창조되는 것입니다. 당신은 이제 그리스도 안에서 새로운 사람입니다. 이 경험은 고린도전서 12:13에서 말하는 것처럼 성령님께서 당신을 그분 안으로 영접할 때 일어납니다. “우리가 유대인이나 헬라인이나 종이나 자유인이나 다 한 성령으로 세례를 받아 한 몸이 되었고…” 이것이 바로 거듭남, 즉 다시 태어나는 것입니다.
고린도전서 12:13에서 이어지는 부분은 두 번째 경험인 성령님을 당신 안에 모시는 것에 대해 언급합니다 “… 또 다 한 성령을 마시게 하셨느니라.” 이 구절은 성령을 받아 당신 안에 거하시도록 하며, 그분과 한 몸 안에서 하나가 되는 것을 뜻합니다(고전 6:17, 요 7:37-39).
성령을 받는 것은 그리스도 안으로 들어와 거듭나는 것과는 다른 경험입니다. 예를 들어, 오순절에 제자들은 거듭났고 또한 같은 날 그들 안에 거하실 성령을 받았습니다.
오늘날 많은 사람들도 비슷한 경험을 합니다. 그들은 거듭나자마자 바로 성령을 받습니다. 하지만 모든 사람에게 항상 해당되는 일은 아닙니다. 예를 들어, 사도행전 19장에서 사도 바울은 에베소에서 몇몇 제자들을 만나 그들이 믿었을 때 성령을 받았느냐고 물었습니다.
그들은 성령님이 계신다는 말을 듣지도 못했다고 대답했습니다. 바울이 에베소에서 만났던 제자들과 같이, 어떤 사람들은 거듭나고 성령을 받기까지 기다리는 시간이 생길 수도 있습니다. 그들이 성령님과 그분의 성도 안에서의 사역을 알지 못했기 때문입니다.
사도 바울조차 다마스커스로 가는 길에서 그리스도를 영접하고 거듭났지만 다마스커스의 제자 아나니아가 와서 안수하여 사흘만에 성령을 받았습니다(행 9:9-11, 17).
그러므로 거듭난다는 것은 실제로 성령님과 그리스도와 하나님 안으로 침례를 받는 것입니다. 사도 요한은 이를 하나님 안에 거한다고 표현하고, 하나님이 당신 안에 거하시는 것과는 구별했습니다(요일 4:15). 사도 바울의 표현도 동일합니다. 바울은 거듭나며 시작되는 ‘그리스도 안에 거함’, 그리고 성령을 받으며 분명하게 시작되는 ‘당신 안에 계신 그리스도’를 구분했습니다(고후 5:17, 골 1:27).

사랑하는 아버지, 내 안에 계시는 성령님으로 인해 감사드립니다. 성령님은 나를 지혜와 영광과 은혜로 충만하게 하시고, 내가 그리스도 안에서 승리하는 삶을 살며 아버지의 의를 나타내도록 신성한 능력을 주셨습니다. 나는 그리스도와 분리될 수 없는 하나가 되었습니다. 내가 그분 안에서 살고, 움직이고, 존재하기 때문입니다! 나는 그분의 영광과 신성의 화신이자 표현입니다. 하나님께 영광 드립니다!

BEING BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST
“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory”(Colossians 1:27).
Some Christians misconstrue being baptized in the Holy Ghost with receiving the Holy Spirit to live in you. According to the Scriptures, these two aren’t the same; they’re two distinct experiences.
The first thing that actually happens when you come to Christ, or receive eternal life is that you are baptized or immersed into Christ. Paul captures it vividly in 2 Corinthians 5:17, when he said, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
Therefore, to be in Christ or be born into Christ is to be recreated; you’re now a new person in Christ. This first experience is when the Holy Spirit receives you into Him, just as the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 12:13, “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free….” This is the new birth—being born again.
The second part of the verse refers to the second experience “…and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” This is receiving the Holy Spirit to dwell in you to become one with Him in same body (1 Corinthians 6:17, John 7:37-39).
Receiving Him is a separate experience that follows the first experience. On the day of Pentecost, for example, the disciples were born again and also received the Holy Spirit to dwell in them on that same occasion.
The same experience happens to many people today; immediately they’re born again, they receive the Holy Spirit. But this isn’t always the case. In Acts 19, for example, the Apostle Paul encountered some disciples in Ephesus and asked them if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed.
They replied that they hadn’t even heard that there’s a Holy Spirit. So, for some individuals, there might be a period of waiting, maybe due to lack of knowledge about the Holy Spirit and His ministry in the saints, like these disciples Paul encountered in Ephesus.
The Apostle Paul Himself received Christ and was born again on the road to Damascus, but received the Holy Spirit after 3 days when Ananias, a disciple of Damascus came to him and laid hands on him (Acts 9:9-11, 17).
So, being born again is actually being baptized into the Holy Ghost, into Christ, and into God. John refers to it as being in God and distinguishes that from He in you (1 John 4:15) much as Paul the apostle distinguishes ‘being in Christ’, which begins at the new birth, from ‘Christ in you’ which evidently is initiated when you receive the Holy Spirit into you (2 Corinthians 5:17, Colossians 1:27).

Dear Father, I thank you for the Holy Spirit, who lives in me. He’s filled me with wisdom, glory and grace, and has imparted me with divine enablement to live the victorious life in Christ, and demonstrate your righteousness. I’m inseparably one with Christ, for in Him I live, move and have my being! I’m the embodiment and expression of His glory and divinity. Glory to God!
