Beyond Human Abilities
“내 말과 내 전도함이 설득력 있는 지혜의 말로 하지 아니하고 다만 성령의 나타나심과 능력으로 하여”(고전 2:4)
당신이 뛰어난 언변을 지녔거나 말솜씨가 좋다고 해서 죄인들이 구원받도록 설득할 수 있거나 그들을 의롭게 할 수 있는 건 아닙니다. 한 개인의 지적 능력, 카리스마, 매력적인 말로 다른 이들을 설득하는 능력을 넘어선 사역의 영성이 있습니다.
효과적인 복음의 그리스도인이나 사역자가 되는 것은 당신의 능력과는 아무 상관이 없습니다. 당신의 능력과 능숙함은 성령으로 말미암아야 합니다! 성령님은 사도 바울을 통해서 이에 대해 명확하게 포현하셨습니다. “우리는 어떤 일이라도 우리에게서 난 것 같이 생각하여 스스로 만족하지 않는 것은 우리의 만족이 하나님께로부터 난 것이기 때문이라. 또한 그 분은 우리로 새 언약의 능력 있는 일꾼이 되게 하셨는데 이는 법문으로 한 것이 아니고 영으로 한 것이니 법문은 죽이고 영은 살리기 때문이라.”(고후 3:5-6, 한글킹제임스)
왕국에서의 삶과 하나님을 향한 우리의 섬김은 반드시 믿음으로, 성령의 능력을 통해 해야 합니다. 그렇기 때문에 세상에서 가장 위대한 설교일지라도 어떤 사람의 인생을 결코 바꾸지 못합니다. 가장 지혜로운 말일지라도 강퍅한 심령을 바꿀 수 없습니다. 세상의 위대한 커뮤니케이터가 굉장히 영리하게 소통할지라도 인간 본성의 가장 핵심으로 들어갈 수는 없습니다. 그가 어떤 단어를 선택해서 사용하든지 상관 없습니다.
성령이 없다면 생명이 없을 것입니다! 우리를 “활발하게” 하는 영이며, 이는 생명을 준다는 것을 의미합니다. 스가랴 4장 6절은 “…이는 힘으로 되지 아니하며 능력으로 되지 아니하고 오직 나의 영으로 되는니라”고 말합니다. 할렐루야! 고린도전서 4장 20절(한글킹제임스)은 이렇게 선언합니다. “이는 하나님의 나라는 말에 있지 아니하고 능력에 있음이라!” 성령님의 능력입니다!
성령과의 교제와 말씀에 대한 묵상을 우선시하십시오. 그렇게 할 때 당신은 그분의 뜻을 알도록 그분과 더욱 친밀해지고, 그분의 능력으로 합당하게 행하게 되며, 주님의 효과적인 증인이 됩니다.
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 나를 그리스도의 효과적인 증인으로 삼아 주시니 감사합니다. 헤아릴 수 없는 그리스도의 풍요함을 전파하게 하는 나의 능력은 하나님께로부터 납니다. 나의 말은 바로 작동하고, 효과적이고, 생산적이고, 유익하고, 강합니다. 또한 죄인들의 심령에 의를 생산하고 그들을 당신의 사랑을 아는 참되고 정확한 지식으로 인도합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

BEYOND HUMAN ABILITIES
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power (1 Corinthians 2:4).
That you have a gift of the gab or have your way with words doesn’t mean you’ll be able to persuade sinners to be saved or turn them to righteousness. Beyond one’s intellectual prowess, charisma or ability to persuade others with enticing words, there’s a spirituality of ministry that must be understood.
Being an effective Christian or minister of the Gospel has nothing to do with your human ability; your ability and competence must be by the Spirit! The Spirit, through the Apostle Paul, expresses this clearly for us in 2 Corinthians 3:5-6: “Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God. He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant–not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life” (NIV).
Life in the Kingdom, and our service to God, have to be by faith, through the power of the Holy Spirit. That’s why the greatest sermons in the world may never change anybody’s life. The wisest words may never change the hardest of hearts. The greatest communicators of the world may never be able to go into the deepest core of the human nature, no matter how smartly they communicate; no matter their choice of words! Without the Holy Spirit, it’ll all be lifeless.
It’s the Spirit that “quickeneth”; that means gives life. Zechariah 4:6 says, “…Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” Hallelujah! 1 Corinthians 4:20 (NKJV) declares, “For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power”; the power of the Holy Ghost!
Prioritise fellowship with the Holy Spirit and meditation on the Word. That’s where you get more acquainted with Him to know His will, with power to walk accordingly, and be an effective witness for the Lord.
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for making me an effective witness for Christ; my competence is born of you to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ. My words are operative, efficacious, productive, fruitful and potent with grace, producing righteousness in the hearts of sinners, and bringing them to the true and accurate knowledge of your love, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
