Count The Cost
“내가 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음을 증언하는 일을 마치려 함에는 나의 생명조차 조금도 귀한 것으로 여기지 아니하노라”(행 20:24)
누가는 사도행전 20:17-27에서 바울과 그의 일행이 어떻게 드로아를 떠나 밀레도까지 배를 타고 가서 에베소의 장로들에게 진심 어린 작별인사를 했는지 알려줍니다. 그곳에서 바울은 장로들에게 자신이 역경, 고난, 시련 가운데에서도 어떻게 눈물과 겸손으로 주님을 섬겼는지 상기시켰습니다.
바울은 23절에서 이렇게 말했습니다. “…오직 성령이 각 성에서 내게 증언하여 결박과 환난이 나를 기다린다 하시나 내가 달려갈 길과 주 예수께 받은 사명 곧 하나님의 은혜의 복음을 증언하는 일을 마치려 함에는 나의 생명조차 조금도 귀한 것으로 여기지 아니하노라…”(행 20:23-24, 확대번역본) 이 위대한 사도는 자신이 복음을 위해 목숨을 걸었다는 사실을 돌려 말하지 않았습니다. 얼마나 영감을 주는 일입니까! 얼마나 대단한 헌신입니까!
당신이 사도 바울과 주님의 다른 사도들이 기록한 말씀을 읽을 때, 그들이 우리에게 이 말씀을 전하기 위해 어떤 대가를 치렀는지 생각해 본 적이 있습니까? 교회사를 공부해보면 많은 사람들이 복음 때문에 죽임을 당했다는 것을 알게 됩니다.
스데반에 대해 읽어보십시오. 스데반이 유대인들을 회심하게 하는데 성공하자 의회는 분노했고, 결국 그는 돌에 맞아 죽었습니다! 어떤 이들은 목이 잘리고, 십자가에 못 박히고, 화형을 당하고, 끓는 가마솥에 던져졌습니다. 따라서 당신은 이 말씀이 당신에게 오기까지의 비용을 생각해봐야 합니다.
특히 이 마지막 날에 복음을 위해 삶을 바칠 것을 준비하고 기꺼이 그렇게 하기로 선택하십시오. 복음을 위해 포기하기 어렵거나, 양보할 수 없거나, 감당할 수 없는 것은 아무것도 없습니다. 당신이 어떤 희생을 치르게 되더라도, 해야 한다면 복음을 위해 목숨을 바칠 각오와 의지를 가지십시오.
당신의 삶이 얼마나 소중합니까? 그저 당신의 이름, 당신 자신, 또는 당신이 가진 돈을 구해야 하기 때문에 주님을 위해 더 많은 것을 내어드릴 수 없습니까? 그것들이 당신의 삶의 전부입니까? 어느 시점에는 당신의 생명을 포함해서 복음을 위해 드리기에 과한 것은 없음을 절대적으로 확신해야 합니다. 예수님은 마가복음 8:35에서 다음과 같이 말씀하셨습니다. “누구든지 자기 목숨을 구원하고자 하면 잃을 것이요 누구든지 나와 복음을 위하여 자기 목숨을 잃으면 구원하리라.”
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 나는 복음전파에 있어 단호한 태도를 유지하며 타협하지 않습니다. 나는 어디에서나 복음의 편에 서서 완전한 확신으로 담대하게 복음을 전하고 나의 죽음까지도 각오합니다. 아멘.

COUNT THE COST
“But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God”(Acts 20:24).
In Acts 20:17–27, Luke tells us how Paul and his team left Troas and sailed to Miletus, where he gave his heartfelt farewell to the elders of Ephesus. There, he reminded them of how he served the Lord with all humility, in tears in the midst of adversity, affliction and trials.
In the twenty third verse, he said, “…the Holy Spirit clearly and emphatically affirms to me in city after city that imprisonment and suffering await me. But none of these things move me; neither do I esteem my life dear to myself…” (Act 20:23-24 AMPC). This great apostle minced no words about the fact that he had put his life on the line for the sake of the Gospel. What an inspiration! What a commitment!
When you go through the scriptures written by the apostle Paul and the other apostles of the Lord, have you ever thought what it cost them to get the message across to us? Study church history, and you’ll discover that many of them were killed for the sake of the Gospel.
Read about Stephen. His success in converting Jews drew the indignation of the Sanhedrin, and he was stoned to death! Some were beheaded, crucified, burned at the stakes and others were thrown into cauldron of boiling oil. So, you have to count the cost.
Be ready and willing to lay your life on the line for the Gospel, especially in these last days. Nothing should be too much for you to give up, give for, or go through for the Gospel. No matter the sacrifices you make for the Gospel, be ready and willing to give your life for it, if it comes to that.
How dear is your life? Is it so important that you wouldn’t do more for the Lord, just so you could save your name, yourself, or the money that you’ve got? Is that all there is about life to you? You should come to that point in your life where you’re absolutely convinced that nothing is too much for you to give for the Gospel, including your life. Jesus said in Mark 8:35, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.”
PRAYER
Dear Father, I remain resolute and unapologetic about the Gospel; I stand for the Gospel everywhere, preaching it boldly with absolute convictions, even unto death if need be. Amen.
