We Were In Him
“긍휼이 풍성하신 하나님이 우리를 사랑하신 그 큰 사랑을 인하여 허물로 죽은 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리셨고 (너희는 은혜로 구원을 받은 것이라)”(엡 2:4-5)
오늘의 본문 구절은 정말 심오합니다! 사도 바울은 주님과 우리의 연합으로 우리가 예수님의 십자가, 죽음, 장사되심과 부활에 함께했다는 영적인 진리를 강조하며 이렇게 말합니다. “허물로 죽은 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리셨고…”(엡 2:5)
예수님께서 십자가에 달리셨을 때, 우리도 십자가에 달렸습니다. 그분이 우리의 대속물이 되셨습니다. 예수님께서 죽으셨을 때, 우리는 그분 안에 있었습니다. 예수님이 장사되었을 때, 우리는 공의 안에서 모두 장사되었습니다. 예수님께서 지옥으로 가셔서 사탄과 어둠의 악한 영들을 모두 이기셨을 때, 바울이 골로새서 2:15에서 자세히 설명했듯이 하나님의 마음에는 우리 또한 예수님 안에 있었습니다! 우리는 그리스도 안에서 사탄을 이겼습니다.
그리고 나서 성경은 하나님께서 예수를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리셨음을 보여줍니다. 예수님이 일으켜 지실 때, 우리도 그와 함께 일으킴을 받았습니다. 에베소서 2:6-7은 말합니다. “또 함께 일으키사 그리스도 예수 안에서 함께 하늘에 앉히시니…” 하나님이 지금 우리를 이렇게 보고 계십니다. 예수님께서 하신 모든 것은 우리와 모든 세상을 위한 것이었습니다. 우리는 그분 안에 있었습니다.
이를 생각해 보십시오. 예수님은 새 생명, 즉 부활 생명으로 죽은 자 가운데서 부활하셨습니다. 그 생명이 오늘날 우리 안에 있는 생명입니다. 그분의 어떠하심과 같이 우리도 이 세상에서 그러하기 때문입니다(요일 4:17). 당신이 그리스도를 영접했을 때, 예수님이 지옥에 가실 때의 생명을 영접한 것이 아닙니다. 당신은 죄 없는 의로우신 예수님의 생명을 받았습니다.
예수님은 우리 죄를 가지고 지옥에 가셨고, 마귀를 이기시고, 죄의 값을 다 치르시고 하나님의 의로 다시 살아나셨습니다. 할렐루야! 이제 우리도 새로운 탄생으로 인해 그분 안에서 하나님의 의가 되었습니다. “하나님이 죄를 알지도 못하신 이를 우리를 대신하여 죄로 삼으신 것은 우리로 하여금 그 안에서 하나님의 의가 되게 하려 하심이라.”(고후 5:21)
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 나를 새로운 생명으로 이끄신 주 예수님의 죽으심, 장사되심, 부활하심을 감사드립니다. 나는 모든 정사와 권세와 능력과 모든 이름 위에 뛰어나며, 위대한 영광과 다스림 안에 계신 그리스도와 함께 앉혀졌습니다. 할렐루야!

WE WERE IN HIM
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)”(Ephesians 2:4-5).
What a profound portion of scripture we just read! The Apostle Paul explains a spiritual truth that emphasizes our union with the Lord in His crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection when he said, “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ…” (Ephesians 2:5).
When Jesus was on the cross, we were the ones on the cross; He was our substitute. When He died, we were in Him. When He was buried, in the mind of justice, we were all buried. When He went to hell and defeated Satan and the demons of darkness, as Paul detailed in Colossians 2:15, in the mind of God, we were in Him! We defeated Satan in Christ.
Then the Bible shows that God raised Jesus from the dead; when that happened, we were raised together with Him. Ephesians 2:6-7 says, “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus….” This is how God sees us now. Everything that Jesus did was for us—the whole world—we were in Him.
Think about it: Jesus rose from the dead with a new life—the resurrection life; that’s the life we have in us today, because as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). When you received Christ, you didn’t receive the life with which Jesus went to hell; you received the life of the righteous Jesus without sin.
He went to hell with our sins, defeated the devil, paid the full penalty for sin, and came back to life as the righteousness of God. Hallelujah! Now by virtue of the New Birth, we also have become the righteousness of God in Him: “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus that ushered me into a newness of life. I’m seated together with Christ in dominion and great glory, far above all principalities, powers, might, and every name that is named. Hallelujah!
