예수님을 알게 되면 사랑하게 됩니다
To Know Him Is To Love Him
“내가 그리스도와 그 부활의 권능과 그 고난에 참여함을 알고자 하여 그의 죽으심을 본받아”(빌 3:10)
오늘의 본문 구절에서 사도 바울이 말한 내용에 주목해보십시오. “내가 그를 알고자 하여…” 이것은 사도 바울의 꿈이었습니다. 그분(예수님)을 알게 되면 그분을 사랑하게 되기 때문입니다. 예수님을 사랑하지 않는 사람은 그분을 잘 모르는 사람입니다. 만약 그분이 어떤 분인지 알게 되면, 그들은 틀림없이 예수님과 사랑에 빠지게 될 것입니다. 당신이 예수님을 알면 알수록, 그분을 더욱 사랑하게 됩니다. 할렐루야.
이는 회심하기 이전의 바울을 생각나게 합니다. 바울은 바리새인이었고, 초대 교회에서 그리스도인들의 박해를 주도한 종교 분파의 일원이었습니다. 성경은 당시 정부의 승인을 받은 그가 “교회를 크게 파괴하고 집집마다 들어가 남자와 여자를 끌어다가 감옥에 넘겨주더라”(행 8:3 한글킹제임스)고 말합니다.
사도 바울은 거기서 멈추지 않았습니다. 누가는 바울이 주님을 따르는 자들에게 어떤 끔찍한 살인 위협을 가했는지 말해줍니다(행 9:1). 그러나 그의 인생을 영원히 바꿔 놓은 일이 일어났습니다. 바울은 다마스커스로 가는 길에 주님을 만나는 운명을 마주했습니다. 성경은 말합니다. “사울이 길을 가다가 다마스커스에 가까이 이르렀을 때에 갑자기 하늘로부터 빛이 나와 그를 둘러 비추더라. 그가 땅에 쓰러져 들으매 한 음성이 있어 그에게 이르시되, 사울아, 사울아, 어찌하여 네가 나를 핍박하느냐? 하시거늘 그가 이르되, 주여, 누구시니이까? 하니 주께서 이르시되, 나는 네가 핍박하는 예수라. 가시 채를 걷어차기가 네게 고생이라, 하시거늘 그가 떨며 심히 놀라 이르되, 주여, 내가 무엇을 하기 원하시나이까?”(행 9:3-6 한글킹제임스). 할렐루야!
주님에 대한 새로운 지식을 갖게 되자 바울은 더 이상 가만히 있을 수 없었습니다. 그는 가는 곳마다 예수님이 살아 계시고 그분이 실재하심을 증거했습니다! 예수님을 향한 바울의 사랑은 꺼지지 않았습니다. 바울은 이제 주님을 알았기 때문입니다.
에베소서 3:19에서 바울이 다음과 같이 말한 것은 당연합니다. “…그리스도의 사랑을 알아 하나님의 모든 충만하심으로 충만하게 되기를 구하노라.” 당신이 인간의 이해를 뛰어넘는 그리스도에 대한 계시를 갖고 하나님의 충만하심으로 가득하게 되는 것이 당신을 향한 하나님의 뜻입니다. 하나님은 당신이 그분의 사랑으로 흘러 넘치고, 그분의 생명, 본성, 성품, 능력을 나타내기를 원하십니다. 할렐루야!
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 당신의 측량할 수 없고, 무조건적이며, 순수하고, 영원한 사랑을 내 영에 계시해 주셔서 감사합니다. 나는 당신의 사랑에 뿌리를 내리고 있으며, 오늘 당신의 사랑을 내 세상에 나타내고 퍼뜨립니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” (Philippians 3:10).
Notice what the Apostle Paul said in the opening verse: “That I may know him….” This was his dream, because to know Him (Jesus) is to love Him. Anyone who doesn’t love Jesus doesn’t know Him. If they ever get to know who He is, they’ll most certainly fall in love with Him. The more you know Jesus, the more you love Him. Hallelujah.
It brings to mind the story of Paul before his conversion. He was a Pharisee and a member of the critic—religious sect that spearheaded the persecution of Christians in the early Church. Authorized by the government of the day, the Bible says, “…he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison” (Acts 8:3).
He didn’t stop at that. Luke tells us how he continued to issue violent threats of murder against the followers of the Lord (Acts 9:1). But something happened that changed his life forever. He had a destiny-shaping encounter with the Lord on the road to Damascus. The Bible says, “And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to
the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do…” (Acts 9:3-6). Hallelujah!
Paul, as a result of this new knowledge of the Lord, couldn’t keep back anymore; everywhere he went, he testified that Jesus is alive and that He’s real! Paul’s love for Jesus was unquenchable because he now knew the Lord.
No wonder he said in Ephesians 3:19, “And to know the love of Christ…that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” This is God’s will for you: that you’d have a revelation of Christ beyond human understanding and be filled with His fullness, overflowing in His love, manifesting His life, nature, character and power. Hallelujah!
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the revelation of your unfathomable, unconditional, pure and eternal love in my spirit. I’m rooted and grounded in your love, and I manifest and radiate your love to my world today, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
