“너희는 이 세대를 본받지 말고 오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받아 하나님의 선하시고 기뻐하시고 온전하신 뜻이 무엇인지 분별하도록 하라”(롬 12:2)
메시아가 오시기 전에 엘리야가 먼저 올 것이라고 예언되었습니다(말 4:5-6). 서기관들은 이 예언을 예수님이 메시아가 아니라는 증거로 사용했습니다. 그러나 제자들은 변화산에서 예수님이 엘리야와 이야기하는 것을 눈으로 직접 보았고(마 17:1-3 참고), 예수님께 이렇게 여쭤보았습니다. “그러면 어찌하여 서기관들이 엘리야가 먼저 와야 하리라 하나이까?”
놀랍게도 예수님은 엘리야가 메시아보다 먼저 와야 한다고 주장한 서기관들의 말을 확증해 주셨습니다. 그분은 말씀하셨습니다. “엘리야가 과연 먼저 와서 모든 일을 회복하리라 내가 너희에게 말하노니 엘리야가 이미 왔으되 사람들이 알지 못하고 임의로 대우하였도다 인자도 이와 같이 그들에게 고난을 받으리라 하시니”(마 17:11-12). 성경은 말합니다. “그제서야 제자들이 예수께서 말씀하신 것이 세례 요한인 줄을 깨달으니라”(마 17:13). 엘리야는 이미 왔었지만, 사람들은 그것을 알지 못했습니다. 그들이 육신의 눈으로 보고 있었기 때문입니다!
오늘날에도 많은 그리스도인들이 그런 식으로 자신을 봅니다. 그들은 하나님 안에서 자신이 되기 원하는 것과 소유하기 원하는 것들에 대해 꿈꾸고 기도하고 분투하지만, 이미 그들은 그것들을 소유하고 있습니다. 다만 그 사실을 모를 뿐입니다. 이것이 바로 당신이 말씀을 알아야 하는 이유입니다. 말씀을 아는 지식을 통해 당신은 그리스도 안에서 자신의 정체성과 유업을 깨닫게 됩니다.
당신 안에 계신 그리스도보다 더 위대하고 좋은 것은 없습니다. 주께서 그러하심과 같이 우리도 그러하다는 것을 온전히 깨달아야 합니다(요일 4:17). 당신은 하나님의 의이며 그분의 본성인 선함, 친절, 사랑, 겸손, 탁월함과 일치하는 모든 완전한 것들의 표현입니다!
바로 이것이 오늘의 본문 구절에서 당신의 마음을 새롭게 하라고 권면하는 이유입니다. 오직 성령으로 쓰여진 성경을 통해서만, 하나님께서 당신을 그리스도 안에서 어떤 존재로 만드시고 무엇을 주셨는지 발견할 수 있기 때문입니다.
고백
하나님은 나에게 생명과 경건에 속한 모든 것을 주셨습니다. 나는 육신의 눈으로 보기를 거절합니다. 나는 분투하거나 조바심 내지 않습니다. 이제 복음의 모든 유업은 법적으로 그리고 실제적으로 나의 소유입니다! 나는 나의 유업과 복음의 완전한 축복 안에 삽니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

DISCOVER WHO YOU ARE IN HIM
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).
Before the coming of the Messiah, it was prophesied that Elijah would come first (Malachi 4:5-6). The Scribes used this prophecy as evidence against the messiahship of Jesus. But the disciples, having seen Elijah with their own eyes talking with Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration (Read Matthew 17:1-3), asked Jesus, “…Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?” (Matthew 17:10).
To their surprise, Jesus confirmed the Scribes insistence that Elijah must come first before the Messiah. He said, “…Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them” (Matthew 17:11-12).
The Bible says, “Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist” (Matthew 17:13). Elijah already came, but they didn’t know it, because they were looking in the flesh!
There’re many Christians who are like that today. All they’re dreaming, praying, struggling to be and have in God, they already are, and already have, but they don’t know it. This is why you must know the Word. Through the knowledge of the Word, you’re enlightened as to your identity and heritage in Christ.
Nothing could be greater or better than Christ in you, and you in Christ. You’ve got to come to the full realization that as He is, so are you (1 John 4:17).
You’re His righteousness, the expression of all the perfect things that are consistent with His nature?His goodness, His kindness, His love, His humility, and excellence!
This is why our theme verse admonishes that you renew your mind, because it’s only through the Scriptures, by the Spirit, that you discover what God has already made you and granted you in Christ.
CONFESSION
Everything I require for life and godliness has been granted me by God. I refuse to look in the flesh. I don’t struggle, and I don’t fret. Every provision of the Gospel is both legally and vitally my possession NOW! I walk in my inheritance, in the full blessings of the Gospel, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
