God’s One And Only
“본래 하나님을 본 사람이 없으되 아버지 품 속에 있는 독생하신 하나님이 나타내셨느니라” (요 1:18)
우리가 방금 읽은 구절은 하나님의 아들에 대한 가장 특별한 표현 중 하나를 제공합니다. 이 구절은 하나님을 대면한 사람이 없다는 중요한 사실을 강조합니다. 그리고 나서 예수님을 “독생자”라고 부릅니다. 독생자로 사용된 그리스어 단어는 “모노게네스(Monogenes)”로, 유일한, 독특한, 그분과 같은 다른 존재가 없다는 뜻입니다. 예수님은 여기서 아버지로부터 난 유일한 아들로 묘사됩니다.
그러나 우리는 오늘의 본문 구절의 후반부에서 예수님의 사명, 즉 그분이 태어나신 이유에 대한 특별한 내용을 발견할 수 있습니다. 예수님은 아버지를 알리기 위해 오셨습니다. “본래 하나님을 본 사람이 없으되 아버지 품 속에 있는 독생하신 하나님이 나타내셨느니라” 여기서 “나타내다”라는 단어는 그리스어 “엑세게오마이(exegeomai)”에서 유래되었으며, 하나님의 아들이신 예수님이 사람들에게 하나님을 보여주기 위해 오셨다는 의미입니다. 그분은 인간의 형상으로 하나님이 어떤 분이신지 보여주시기 위해 오셨습니다. 그분은 하나님의 본성을 선포하고 행하기 위해 오셨습니다.
이 점에 대해 생각해 보십시오. 예수님이 가지신 생명이 바로 그분이 당신에게 주신 생명입니다(요일 5:11-12). 그리고 성경은 주님이 그러하심과 같이 우리도 이 세상에서 그러하다고 말합니다(요일 4:17). 따라서 오늘날 그분은 “죽은 자 가운데서 먼저 나신 이”(계 1:5)로 불리십니다. 이는 그분이 새로운 종족, 새로운 부류의 “모노게네스” 곧 예수 그리스도의 부활로 말미암아 하나님으로부터 태어난 사람들을 이끄시기 때문입니다(벧전 1:3).
요한일서 3:1이 말하는 바를 기억하십시오. “보라 아버지께서 어떠한 사랑을 우리에게 베푸사 하나님의 자녀라 일컬음을 받게 하셨는가…” 우리는 하나님의 자녀로 태어났습니다. “영접하는 자 곧 그 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주셨으니 이는 혈통으로나 육정으로나 사람의 뜻으로 나지 아니하고 오직 하나님께로부터 난 자들이니라”(요 1:12-13) 또한 야고보서 1:18은 말합니다. “그가 그 피조물 중에 우리로 한 첫 열매가 되게 하시려고 자기의 뜻을 따라 진리의 말씀으로 우리를 낳으셨느니라.” 우리는 첫 번째이자 최고의 존재입니다. 우리는 유일무이한 독특한 존재입니다. 할렐루야!
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 복음의 메시지를 듣고 받아들이는 모든 사람에게 주신 영생의 축복에 감사드립니다. 오늘날 복음이 전파될 때 많은 사람들이 거듭나 신성한 생명을 받으라는 초청을 듣고 하나님의 사랑의 깊이를 이해하게 될 것입니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

GOD’S ONE AND ONLY
“No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him” (John 1:18).
What we just read provides one of the most extraordinary expressions of the Son of God. It emphasizes that no one has seen God face to face, which is a significant point. Then it refers to Jesus as the “only begotten Son.” The Greek term used for begotten is “Monogenēs,” which means the one and only or one of a kind, unique, with no other like Him. Jesus is described here as the only born Son of the Father.
But then we see something extraordinary about His mission, what He was born to do, in the latter part of our theme verse: He came to make the Father known: “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” The word declared is from the Greek, “exēgeomai” which means that Jesus, God’s born-Son, came to rehearse God to men. He came to show us what God is like in human form. He came to declare and act out the nature of God.
Now, think about this: the life that He had is what He’s given you (1 John 5:11-12). And the Bible says as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). So, today, He’s called the “first begotten of the dead” (Revelation 1:5). This is because He heads up a new species, a new class of “Monogenēs”—people who have now been born of God as a result of the resurrection of Jesus Christ—by virtue of the New Birth (1 Peter 1:3).
Recall what the Bible says in 1 John 3:1, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God….” We’re born-sons of God: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12-13). James 1:18 says, “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” We’re the first and the best; the one and only or one of a kind, unique. PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the blessing of eternal life for everyone who hears and receives the message of the Gospel. Today, many will hear and understand the depth of your love and the invitation to be born again and receive the divine life as the Gospel is preached around the world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
