Train Your Soul To Follow Your Spirit
“너희는 이 세대를 본받지 말고 오직 마음을 새롭게 함으로 변화를 받아…”(롬 12:2)
바울이 로마서 1장 9절에서 “내가 그의 아들의 복음 안에서 내 심령으로 섬기는 하나님이 나의 증인이 되시거니와…”라고 말했을 때, 그는 중요한 진리를 나타냈습니다. 우리는 영으로 하나님을 섬깁니다. 그러나 당신의 영 너머에는 당신 존재의 또 다른 중요한 부분이 있습니다. 바로 당신의 혼, 즉 당신의 생각, 의지, 감정의 영역입니다.
당신의 생각이 당신을 다스려서는 안 됩니다. 당신의 감정이 당신을 다스려서는 안 됩니다. 당신의 의지가 당신을 다스려서는 안 됩니다. 대신, 그것들은 성령의 영향 아래 있어야 하며 복종하도록 만들어져야 합니다.
구약의 성전에서 혼은 제사장들이 사역했던 성소에 해당합니다. 그리고 그들의 주된 책임은 무엇이었습니까? 가르치는 것이었습니다. 제사장들은 율법의 청지기이자 교사였습니다. 이는 당신의 혼이 가르침을 받아야 한다는 것을 보여줍니다. 당신의 마음은 말씀으로 훈련되어야 합니다. 당신의 감정은 말씀으로 다스려져야 합니다. 당신의 의지는 말씀으로 훈련되어야 합니다.
때로 당신은 “이것이 내가 하고 싶은 것입니다. 이것이 내가 결정한 것입니다.”라고 말합니다. 그러나 말씀이 당신에게 다른 것을 보여주는 순간, 당신의 뜻은 그 말씀에 순종해야 합니다. 당신은 “내 뜻이 아니라 하나님의 뜻이, 내 방법이 아니라 하나님의 방법이 이루어지기를 원합니다.”라고 말해야 합니다.
당신의 감정도 마찬가지입니다. 당신은 어느 방향으로 마음이 기울 수 있지만, 말씀이 당신의 마음과 다른 것을 드러낼 때 멈추어야 합니다. 말씀이 당신의 감정을 지배하도록 허락하십시오. 이것이 당신의 혼이 다스림을 받게 되는 방법입니다.
이제 성소에는 세 가지 중요한 요소가 있었습니다. 촛대, 진설병 상, 분향단입니다. 촛대는 빛을 주었습니다. 이는 당신의 삶 가운데 말씀이 밝혀주는 것을 뜻합니다. 진설병 상은 영양분을 주었습니다. 이는 당신의 영을 먹이는 말씀을 뜻합니다. 그리고 분향단은 기도, 즉 하나님과의 교제를 나타냅니다.
연관성이 보입니까? 당신이 말씀을 공부할 때 빛이 임하고 당신의 영이 영양분을 공급받습니다. 그리고 그로부터 당신은 기도하도록 감동받고, 당신의 기도는 하나님 앞에 분향하는 향과 같이 올라갑니다. 그러므로 두 가지 힘이 당신의 혼 안에서 지속적으로 역사하고 있습니다. 바로 말씀과 기도입니다.
당신이 말씀을 더 많이 받을수록 더 많이 기도하도록 영향을 받게 되고, 더 많이 기도할수록 말씀에 더 민감하게 됩니다. 이것이 당신의 혼이 훈련되는 방식입니다. 혼을 말씀의 영향력 아래 두는 것입니다. 당신의 생각, 선택, 반응이 하나님의 뜻과 일치하도록 보장하는 것입니다. 바로 이것이 성숙이며, 당신의 영이 인도하고 혼이 따르는 것입니다.
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 내 생각을 새롭게 하고 내 혼을 훈련시키는 하나님의 말씀에 감사드립니다. 나는 내 의지를 하나님께 내어드리며, 감정이나 자연적인 이성에 지배받기를 거부합니다. 지금 그리고 항상, 내 생각은 밝아지고, 내 영은 양육되며, 내 삶은 하나님의 완전한 뜻과 일치합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

TRAIN YOUR SOUL TO FOLLOW YOUR SPIRIT
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2).
When Paul said in Romans 1:9, “For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son…,” he expressed something profound: we serve God with our spirits. But beyond your spirit is another vital part of your being—your soul, the arena of your mind, will, and emotions.
Your mind shouldn’t rule you. Your emotions shouldn’t rule you. Your will shouldn’t rule you. Instead, they must come under the influence of the Holy Spirit and be brought into subjection.
In the Old Testament temple, the soul corresponds to the holy place, where the priests ministered. And what was their primary responsibility? Teaching. The priests were custodians and instructors of the law. This shows that your soul must be taught. Your mind must be trained with the Word. Your emotions must be governed by the Word. Your will must be disciplined by the Word.
There are times you say, “This is what I want to do; this is what I’ve decided.” But then the Word shows you something different. At that moment, your will must yield. You say, “Not my will, but God’s will; not my way, but God’s way.”
The same applies to your emotions. You may feel inclined in a certain direction, but when the Word reveals otherwise, you stop. You allow the Word to dominate your emotions. That’s how your soul is brought under control.
Now, in the holy place, there were three significant elements: the candlestick, the table of showbread, and the altar of incense. The candlestick gave light; that’s the illumination of the Word in your life. The table of showbread provided nourishment; that’s the Word feeding your spirit. And the altar of incense represents prayer—your communication with God.
Do you see the connection? As you study the Word, light comes, and your spirit is nourished. Then, out of that, you’re stirred to pray, and your prayers ascend like incense before God. So, two forces are constantly at work in your soul: the Word and prayer.
The more you receive the Word, the more you’re stirred to pray; and the more you pray, the more sensitive you become to the Word. This is how your soul is trained. It’s by keeping it under the influence of the Word. It’s by ensuring that your thinking, choices and responses align with God’s will. This is maturity—where your spirit leads, and your soul follows.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for your Word that renews my mind and trains my soul. I yield my will to you and refuse to be governed by emotions or natural reasoning. Now and always, my mind is enlightened, my spirit is nourished, and my life aligns with your perfect will, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
