“내가 그의 아들의 복음 안에서 나의 영으로 섬기는 하나님께서 나의 증인이시니, 나의 기도에 쉬지 않고 항상 너희를 말하며” (롬 1:9, 한글 킹제임스)
로마서 1장에서 가장 인상적인 내용 중 하나는 오늘의 본문 구절에서 읽은 것처럼 영으로 섬기는 것에 대한 사도 바울의 계시입니다. 이는 그리스도인의 섬김에서 영적인 것에 대한 인식을 강조합니다.
바울은 자신의 생각이나 몸으로 하나님을 섬겼다고 말하지 않고, 자신의 영으로 섬겼다고 말했습니다. 이것은 매우 중요합니다. 기독교는 영적인 삶, 영적인 사역이기 때문입니다. 그리고 우리의 섬김은 성령을 통해 하나님께 드려져야만 하나님께서 받으실 수 있습니다. 바울은 비유적으로 말한 것이 아닙니다. 오히려 바울은 우리에게 어떻게 신성한 임무를 수행하는지 보여주었습니다.
영 안에서 하나님을 섬기는 것은 속사람으로 섬기고, 영적인 진리를 받아들이고, 성령의 깊은 곳에서 사역하는 것입니다. 이것은 머리로 아는 지식이나 기계적인 의무가 아닙니다. 속사람으로부터 나오는 제사장적 섬김입니다. 그리고 후반부에서 바울은 이렇게 말합니다. “나의 기도에 쉬지 않고 항상 너희를 말하며” 이 말 역시 바울의 영으로부터 나온 말입니다. 그는 영적인 실재를 완전히 인식한 자의 열정으로 중보했습니다.
바울은 거기서 멈추지 않았습니다. 12절에서 이렇게 덧붙입니다. “이는 곧 내가 너희와 함께 있어 너희와 나의 믿음으로 인하여 서로 위로를 받으려 함이라.”(한글 킹제임스) 11절에서 바울이 로마에 있는 성도들을 보고싶은 갈망을 표현한 것을 기억하십시오. “내가 너희를 보고 싶어하는 것은 내가 어떤 영적 은사를 너희에게 나누어 주어 끝까지 너희를 굳게 세우게 하려 함이니”(한글 킹제임스) 은사를 나누는 일은 일방적이지 않았습니다. 그들의 상호적인 믿음을 필요로 했습니다.
바울은 그들을 강건케 하기 위해 갔지만, 그들의 믿음과 반응 또한 바울에게 격려가 되었습니다. 이것이 성령님과 하는 교제의 아름다움입니다. 우리가 영으로 하나님을 섬길 때, 우리는 그분의 은혜와 지식을 주고받습니다. 할렐루야!
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 주 예수 그리스도의 복음 안에서 내 영으로 아버지를 섬길 수 있는 특권을 주셔서 감사합니다. 나는 내 삶에 있는 성령님의 역사, 즉 그분의 지혜, 인도, 은혜를 인식하며 다른 사람에게 복음의 축복을 나눠줍니다. 나는 오늘 성령의 능력 안에서 행하며 의의 일들과 열매를 맺습니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

THE BEAUTY OF SERVING WITH THE SPIRIT
“For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers” (Romans 1:9).
One of the most striking thoughts from Romans chapter 1 is the Apostle Paul’s revelation on serving through the Spirit as read in our opening scripture. It emphasises the consciousness of the spiritual in our Christian service.
Paul didn’t say he served God with his mind or body, but with his spirit. This is so important because Christianity is a spiritual walk—a spiritual ministry—and our service must be offered through the Spirit to be acceptable to God. Paul wasn’t speaking metaphorically; rather, he was showing us how to carry out our divine assignments.
Serving God with your spirit is about serving from the inward man, engaging spiritual truths, and ministering from a place of depth in the Holy Spirit. This is not head knowledge or mechanical duty; it’s priestly service from the inner man. Then, in the latter part of the same verse, he says, “…without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers.” This was also from his spirit. He was making intercession with the intensity of one who is fully conscious of spiritual realities.
He didn’t stop there; in verse 12, he adds, “…that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.” Recall that he had expressed his desire to see the saints in Rome in verse 11 saying, “For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established.” The impartation wasn’t one-sided; it required their mutual faith.
He was coming to strengthen them, but they were also going to be a source of encouragement to him by their own faith and response. This is the beauty of fellowship with the Spirit, when we serve God with our spirits, we give and receive of His grace and knowledge. Hallelujah!
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for the privilege of serving you with my spirit in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. I’m conscious of the operations of the Spirit in my life—His wisdom, guidance and grace—to impart others with the blessings of the Gospel. I walk in the power of your Spirit today, producing fruits and works of righteousness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
