에스더의 역할

A Cue From Esther

“당신은 가서 수산에 있는 유다인을 다 모으고 나를 위하여 금식하되 밤낮 삼 일을 먹지도 말고 마시지도 마소서 나도 나의 시녀와 더불어 이렇게 금식한 후에 규례를 어기고 왕에게 나아가리니 죽으면 죽으리이다 하니라”(에 4:16)

에스더서 4장에는 에스더가 왕후가 되어 즐거운 궁중 생활을 즐기게 된 이야기가 나옵니다. 하지만 그녀는 아하수에로 왕 내각의 고위직에 있던 악인 하만이 내린 칙서를 몰랐습니다. 하만의 계획은 에스더를 포함한 모든 유대인들을 멸절시키는 것이었습니다.

에스더의 숙부인 모르드개가 그녀에게 이 끔찍한 상황의 실체를 전달하기 위해 편지를 보내자 그녀의 시야가 바뀌었습니다.

이 편지에는 에스더의 생각을 뒤흔들었던 모르드개의 질문이 포함되어 있습니다. “네가 왕후의 자리를 얻은 것이 이 때를 위함이 아닌지 누가 알겠느냐 하니.”(에 4:14) 어쩌면 에스더는 이 결정적인 순간에 변화를 일으키기 위해 그 왕궁의 신성한 위치에 있었던 것입니다. 그녀는 자신의 유리한 위치를 이용해 자신의 백성들의 구원을 위해 행동하기로 결정했습니다.

그녀는 왕 앞에 가서 백성들을 위해 간청하기로 결단했습니다. 이러한 행동은 법에 어긋나기 때문에 죽을 위험이 따름에도 불구하고 말입니다. 저는 여기서 나온 에스더의 결의를 너무나 좋아합니다. “죽으면 죽으리이다.” 다른 말로 하면, 목숨을 걸고서라도 이 일을 하겠다는 것입니다. 이 순간이 바로 그녀가 승리한 순간이었습니다!

에스더와 같이 당신 또한 복음과 그 안에서의 자신의 역할에 대해 중대한 결정을 내려야 하는 피할 수 없는 순간이 있을 것입니다. 이런 결정을 내리는 법을 배우기 전까지는 두려움이 당신을 계속 붙들 것입니다. 하지만 두려움이 당신을 뒤로 물러서게 해서는 안 되는 순간들이 있습니다.

너무나도 벅찬 문제들 또는 임박한 위험과 어려움에 상관없이 하나님의 말씀의 진리 위에 서십시오. 다른 사람들을 위해 당신 안에 있는 하나님의 은혜를 인식하고, 활용하고, 승리하십시오. 진리에 따라 행동할 용기를 가지십시오. 용감한 선택들을 하고, 옳은 것을 추구하기 위해 기꺼이 무엇이든 대면하십시오. 할렐루야!

기도

사랑하는 아버지, 이 세상에서 변화를 일으키고 다른 사람들을 위해 승리할 수 있도록 나에게 기회의 문들을 열어 주셔서 감사합니다. 나는 다른 사람들을 승리로 이끌고 그들의 삶과 사역의 목적을 성취하는 것을 돕도록 주어진 풍성한 은혜를 인식하고 받아들입니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

A CUE FROM ESTHER

“Go and get all the Jews living in Susa together. Fast for me. Don’t eat or drink for three days, either day or night. I and my maids will fast with you. If you will do this, I’ll go to the king, even though it’s forbidden. If I die, I die”(Esther 4:16 MSG).

In the 4th chapter of the book of Esther, we read how Esther had become queen, enjoying a wonderful life in the palace. However, she was unaware of a decree issued by Haman—a prominent but wicked figure who held a high position in King Ahasuerus’s cabinet. Haman’s plan was to exterminate the Jews, including Esther herself.

Esther’s perspective changed when her uncle, Mordecai, sent her a message to convey the dire nature of the situation. He warned her not to be complacent as she herself, despite being queen, wouldn’t be spared should Haman be allowed to execute his wicked plan.

Here was Mordecai’s thought-provoking question to Esther, “…and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14). Perhaps, Esther had been divinely positioned in the palace to make a difference at that critical moment. She decided to take advantage of it and do something that’ll save her people.

She decided to go before the king to intercede for her people, even though it was against the law and carried the risk of death. I love her resolve; she said, “…if I perish, I perish.” In other words, I’m going ahead with this, even if it’s going to cost me my life.” That was the moment she won!

There comes a pivotal moment when you must make crucial decisions about the Gospel and your role in it, just like Esther. Until you learn to make that kind of decision, fear may keep you in bondage. It’s in those moments that fear must not hold you back.

Irrespective of the daunting challenges, the imminent perils or danger; stand your ground on the truth of God’s Word. Recognize and take advantage of God’s grace in you to win for others. Have the courage to act on the Truth. Make bold choices, and be willing to face anything in pursuit of what is right. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the doors of opportunity you’ve opened for me to make a difference in this world and win for others. I acknowledge and embrace the abundant grace you’ve bestowed upon me to lead others in victory and fulfil their purpose in life and ministry in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

많은 사람들이 하나님 아버지께 기도하고 항상 주 예수 그리스도와 대화하는 것에 익숙합니다. 이와 같이 우리 안에 거하시는 성령님을 인식하고 그분과 자주 모든 일에 대해 소통하는 것도 중요합니다. 매일 그분과 대화하십시오. 저는 어떤 사람보다도 성령님과 더 많이 대화합니다. 성령님과 대화하는 것을 훈련하십시오.

당신이 아버지와 주 예수님께 말하는 것과 같은 방식으로 성령님께 의식적으로 말하십시오. 성령님을 인식하고 존경하는 마음으로 부르십시오. 기억하십시오. 성령님은 하나님의 임재와 축복의 전달자이십니다. 성령님이 바로 하나님께서 원하시는 곳 어디에서나 하나님의 임재와 능력을 나타내시는 분입니다.

놀랍고도 측량할 수 없는 신성이 당신 안에 거하고 항상 당신과 소통하기를 원한다는 사실에 대해 생각해 보십시오! 그분의 이름이 “성령님”은 아니지만 그분은 당신이 그분을 부르고 그분께 말하고 있다는 것을 아십니다. 성경이 그분을 그렇게 지칭하고 있기 때문입니다. 또한 당신이 주 예수님께 말하거나 아버지께 기도할 때, 그에 대한 반응으로 일하시는 분은 성령님이라는 점 또한 놀랍습니다.

따라서 성령님은 예수 이름에 응답하시고 당신이 아버지께 간구하는 일을 성취하실 때 그분을 역사하시는 분으로 인정하고 교제하십시오! 고린도후서 13:14에 주목하십시오. “주 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 하나님의 사랑과 성령님의 교통하심이 너희 모두와 함께 있을지어다.” 우리는 어떤 분과 교제합니까? 바로 성령님입니다!

우리 교제의 법적인 근거는 주 예수 그리스도를 통해 세워지지만, 우리는 성령님과 생명력 있는 교제을 발전시키도록 부름 받았습니다. 그분께 자주 말하십시오. 지금까지 그렇게 해왔다면 교제를 유지하도록 스스로 격려하십시오. 그렇게 할 때, 당신의 삶이 초월적이고, 영향력 있고, 탁월하게 변화하는 것에 대해 놀라게 될 것입니다. 그분의 인도를 통해 영광에서 영광으로 나아가는 당신의 삶을 발견하게 될 것입니다. 할렐루야!

LEARN TO TALK TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen”(2 Corinthians 13:14).

Many of us are familiar with praying to God the Father, and talking to the Lord Jesus Christ all the time. It’s also essential for us to recognize the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, and commune with Him often and about everything. Talk to Him every day. I talk to the Holy Spirit more than I talk to any human person. Practise it.

In the same way you’ve been talking to the Father and the Lord Jesus, consciously talk to the Holy Spirit. Address Him with recognition and reverence. Remember, He’s the conveyor of the presence and blessings of God; He’s the One that manifests God’s presence and His power wherever God wants it.

Think about the fact that this awesome infinite personality of the Godhead lives in you, and wants to communicate with you always! Interestingly, although His name is not “Holy Spirit,” He understands that you’re referring to Him or addressing Him because that’s how the Scripture refers to Him. It’s also amazing to realize that every time you talk to the Lord Jesus, or pray to the Father, it’s the Holy Spirit who acts in response.

So, while He responds to the Name of Jesus, and fulfils the petitions you make of the Father, recognize and commune with Him as the doer of the work! Notice again what 2 Corinthians 13:14 says, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.” Who do we have the communion with? The Holy Spirit!

While our legal fellowship is established through the Lord Jesus Christ, we are called to cultivate a vital relationship with the Holy Spirit. Talk to Him often. If you’ve been doing it, keep at it and encourage yourself in it. You’ll be amazed at how transcendent, impactful and excellent your life will be. Through His guidance, you’ll find your life propelled from glory to glory. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Holy Spirit, thank you for dwelling in me, and for the privilege of such a great union and fellowship with you. Thank you for the transformation and glory that you bring to my life every day; as I yield myself to you for guidance and direction, I triumph gloriously always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

You Are The Light: Personalize It

마태복음 5:14에 있는 예수님의 말씀을 기억하십시오. “너희는 세상의 빛이라 산 위에 있는 동네가 숨겨지지 못할 것이요” 세상이 어둠 가운데 있지만 당신은 세상의 빛입니다. 또한 예수님은 요한복음 8:12에서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “나는 세상의 빛이니 나를 따르는 자는 어둠에 다니지 아니하고 생명의 빛을 얻으리라.”

예수님은 요한복음 9:5에서 다음과 같이 선포하십니다. “내가 세상에 있는 동안에는 세상의 빛이로라.” 이제 예수님께서 승천하셨음을 기억하십시오. 따라서 이제는 우리가 이 세상의 빛입니다. 우리가 예수님을 대신하여 살고 있기 때문입니다. 예수님은 우리 안에 거하시고, 우리를 통해 다스리십니다.

YOU ARE THE LIGHT: PERSONALIZE IT

“…While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them”(John 12:36).

Remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:14: “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” The world is in darkness, but you’re the light of the world. In John 8:12, He said, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

In John 9:5, Jesus declared, “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Remember Jesus has ascended to heaven; therefore, we’re now the light of the world because we live in His stead; He lives in us and reigns through us.

1 Thessalonians 5:5 says, “Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.” Being children of light means we’re light. You might say, “Pastor Chris, isn’t that a conjecture?” Read Paul’s beautiful revelation in Ephesians 5:8; it says, “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.”

Notice that it says we used to be darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. Blessed be God. As long as you’re in this world, you’re the light of the world. This should be your declaration! As long as you’re in that family, that school, town, community, city, or that region, you are the light! You have to personalize it.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you that I am the light of the world, illuminating, enlightening, revealing, and manifesting the glory, manifold graces, beauties and perfection of divinity to my city, state, nation and region. I’m a city set on a hill that can’t be hidden. I’m making the Name of the Lord Jesus known, and bringing men and women into righteousness. Amen.

It’s The Result Of His Love

“사람이 무엇이기에 주께서 그를 생각하시며 인자가 무엇이기에 주께서 그를 돌보시나이까”(시 8:4)

오늘의 본문 구절인 시편 기자의 말을 깊이 생각해본다면, 한 가지 놀라운 결론에 도달하게 됩니다. 바로 하나님은 사람을 사랑하신다는 점입니다. 시편 기자는 사람을 향한 하나님의 완벽하고 영원한 사랑에 경이로움을 느꼈습니다.

이 사실을 어디서부터 이해해야 합니까? 위대하신 영광의 하나님, 우주를 다스리는 분이자 하늘과 땅의 창조자께서 사람을 단지 “방문”하실 뿐만 아니라, 그 안에 그분의 거처를 삼으신다는 사실을 어떻게 이해합니까? 이것은 너무나 놀라운 실재입니다. 성경은 천사들이 여전히 탐구하고 있다고 말합니다. 천사들도 이를 이해할 수 없었습니다.

하지만 우리를 향한 하나님의 사랑이 모든 것을 가능케 했습니다. 요한일서 3:1은 말합니다. “보라 아버지께서 어떠한 사랑을 우리에게 베푸사 하나님의 자녀라 일컬음을 받게 하셨는가.” 그리고 골로새서 1:27은 말합니다. “하나님이 그들로 하여금 이 비밀의 영광이 이방인 가운데 얼마나 풍성한지를 알게 하려 하심이라 이 비밀은 너희 안에 계신 그리스도시니 곧 영광의 소망이니라.”

하나님께서 친히 우리 안에 거처를 삼으시며 우리는 더 이상 평범한 존재가 아닌 신성한 존재가 되었습니다. 이제 우리는 하나님으로 충만합니다. 이것이 창세부터 있던 하나님의 계획입니다. 이제 성도들에게 나타난 만세와 만대로부터 감추어져 있던 비밀입니다. 할렐루야!

이것이 우리를 향한 하나님의 계획이며 뜻이라는 사실은 에베소서 3:14에 드러납니다. “믿음으로 말미암아 그리스도께서 너희 마음에 계시게 하려 함이라. 너희가 사랑에 뿌리가 박혀 터가 되어 모든 성도와 함께 그 너비와 길이와 깊이와 높이가 어떠함을 깨달으며 지식에 넘치는 그리스도의 사랑을 알고 하나님의 모든 충만하신 것으로 너희에게 충만하게 하려 하심이라.” 하나님을 송축합니다! 생각해보십시오! 하나님의 사랑의 결과로, 예수님이 하나님의 충만으로 충만하신 것처럼 우리도 하나님의 충만으로 충만하게 되었습니다. 하나님께서 우리를 얼마나 사랑하시는지요!

기도

사랑하는 하나님 아버지, 당신의 사랑은 우리를 압도합니다. 당신의 사랑은 우리를 대신한 예수 그리스도의 대속적 죽음을 통해 입증되었습니다. 나는 날마다 내주하는 당신의 임재를 인식하며 살아갑니다. 나를 내 세상으로 흘러가는 당신의 사랑의 통로로 만들어 주셔서 감사드립니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

IT’S THE RESULT OF HIS LOVE

“What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?”(Psalms 8:4).

When you ponder on the words of the Psalmist in our opening scripture, you’ll come to one amazing conclusion: God loves man. The Psalmist was awed at God’s consummate and everlasting love for man.

How do you even begin to comprehend it; that the great God of glory, the Monarch of the universe, the maker of heaven and earth, would, not just “visit” man, but make man His dwelling place? It’s such an amazing reality. The Bible says the Angels are still looking into it; they’re unable to figure it out.

But it’s God’s love for us that made it possible. 1 John 3:1 says, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.” Then in Colossians 1:27, it says, “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

God Himself has tabernacled in us so that we are no longer ordinary beings, but divine beings. Now we are full of God. That was God’s plan from the foundation of the world. That was the mystery which was hidden for ages and from generations, which has now been made manifest to the saints. Hallelujah!

The fact that this was God’s plan and will for us is further revealed in Ephesians 3:14. It says, “That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” Blessed be God! Think about that! It’s all the result of His love for us to be filled with all the fullness of God as Jesus was filled with the fullness of God. How He loves us!

PRAYER

Dear Father, your love is overwhelming as demonstrated through the vicarious death of Jesus Christ in our behalf. I walk every day in, and with the consciousness of your indwelling presence; thank you for making me a vent of your liquid love to my world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

구원자들과 승리자들

Saviours And Champions

“구원자들이 시온 산 위로 올라와서 에서의 산을 심판하리니 그 왕국이 주의 것이 되리로다.”(옵 1:21, 킹제임스 흠정역)

느헤미야 9:25-27에서 선지자 느헤미야는 하나님이 어떻게 이스라엘 자손들을 애굽에서 약속의 땅으로 인도하시고 그들을 풍성히 축복하셨는지에 대해 설명합니다. 그들은 강한 도시들을 점령하고 기름진 땅을 차지하며 하나님의 선하심을 누렸습니다.

그러나 성경은 말합니다. “그럼에도 불구하고 그들이 순종하지 아니하고 주를 거역하며 주의 율법을 등 뒤에 두고 그들을 주께로 돌아오게 하려고 그들에게 증언한 주의 대언자들을 죽여 큰 격노를 일으켰나이다.”(느 9:26, 킹제임스 흠정역) 결과적으로 하나님은 그들을 원수의 손에 주셨습니다.

하지만 다음에 이어지는 내용은 놀랍습니다. 이스라엘 자손들이 환난의 때에 하나님께 부르짖자 하나님이 하늘에서 들으셨습니다. 하나님은 그들을 대적의 손에서 구출할 구원자들을 보내셨습니다. 그들의 불순종 이후에도 구원자들을 보내시며 은혜와 구출로 화답하신 것은 놀랍습니다.

이는 요셉의 이야기를 떠올리게 합니다. 창세기 45:7은 요셉이 자신을 노예로 팔아 넘긴 형들에게 자신을 드러내는 장면을 보여줍니다. 그가 겪었던 수년간의 이별과 고난에도 불구하고, 요셉은 하나님께서 큰 구출로 그의 가족과 자손들의 생명을 보존하기 위해 자신을 이집트에 먼저 보내셨다는 것을 알게 되었습니다(창 45:7).

위 이야기는 오늘날 이 땅에 있는 교회의 모습을 보여줍니다. 하나님은 이 땅에서 그분의 나라와 의의 통치를 교회에 맡기셨습니다. 교회인 우리는 요셉이 지켜낸 그 가문의 후손과 같은 믿음의 후손입니다.

우리는 이 세상을 지키는 자들입니다. 주 예수님이 우리가 세상의 빛이요 땅의 소금이라고 말씀하신 것은 당연합니다. 우리를 통해 이 땅의 민족들이 복을 받습니다. 우리는 아브라함의 자손이기 때문입니다. 우리는 이 땅의 소망입니다. 우리는 시온에서 온 구원자이고 승리자입니다. 우리는 사람들을 흑암으로부터 끌어내어 그리스도 안에서 그들이 받은 유업인 영광스러운 빛 가운데로 인도하도록 능력을 받았습니다. 할렐루야!

기도

사랑하는 아버지, 나를 향한 당신의 부르심을 인식합니다. 나는 내 세상에 있는 사람들에게 신성한 생명의 메시지를 전하는 자로 부름 받았습니다. 나는 사람들에게 복음을 통해 구원과 치유와 생명을 전달합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

In Nehemiah 9:25-27, the prophet Nehemiah speaks of how God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt, led them to the Promised Land, and blessed them abundantly. They took strong cities, possessed fruitful lands, and enjoyed God’s goodness.

However, the Bible says, “Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations” (Nehemiah 9:26). As a result, God delivered them into the hands of their enemies.

But here’s the beautiful part: In their time of trouble, when they cried out to God, He heard them from heaven. Out of His manifold mercies, He sent them saviours who rescued them from the hand of their adversaries. It’s amazing to see how God responded with grace and deliverance even after their disobedience—sending them saviours.

It also brings to mind the story of Joseph. Genesis 45:7 recounts how Joseph revealed himself to his brothers after they had sold him into slavery. Despite the years of separation and the hardships he endured, Joseph recognized that God had sent him ahead to Egypt to preserve his family’s posterity and save their lives through a great deliverance (Genesis 45:7).

The forgoing foreshadows what the Church is in the earth today. God has entrusted the church with the responsibility to run His Kingdom, His reign of righteousness in the earth. We, the church, are the posterity of faith, just as Joseph preserved his family’s posterity.

We’re preservators of the earth. No wonder the Lord Jesus said we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. Through us, the nations of the earth are blessed, because we’re the seed of Abraham. We’re the hope of the world; saviours and champions from Zion; empowered to bring people out of darkness into the glorious light of their inheritance in Christ. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I recognize your calling upon my life as one sent to take the message of the divine life to those in my world, thereby bringing them salvation, healing and life, through the Gospel, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

The Depth Of His Love

“주님께 감사하여라. 그는 선하시며 그 인자하심이 영원하다.”(시 136:1, 새번역)

하늘에 계신 우리 아버지는 너무나 은혜로우시고 친절하십니다. 그분의 사랑의 깊이는 무한합니다. 성경은 우리가 아직 죄인 되었을 때에 그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 죽으셨다고 말합니다(롬 5:8). 하나님의 사랑은 모두를 위한 것이며, 모두라는 말은 최악의 범죄자들조차 포함합니다. 하나님께는 너무 악해서 사랑할 수 없는 사람은 없습니다.

교회가 아버지의 무한하고 놀라운 사랑의 위대함을 발견하도록 사도 바울이 성령으로 말미암아 기도해야 했던 것은 놀라운 일이 아닙니다. 하나님의 사랑은 친밀하고, 깊고, 인내하고, 포용합니다. 우리의 이해를 뛰어넘는 측량할 수 없는 끝없는 사랑입니다(엡 3:18).

느부갓네살 왕 같은 사람을 생각해 보십시오. 열왕기하 24:13-16의 내용으로 인해 많은 사람들이 느부갓네살 왕을 악인 또는 폭군으로만 기억합니다. 느부갓네살 왕이 회개한 뒤 그에게 주어진 하나님의 변함없는 사랑과 자비와 다니엘 4장에 나타난 것처럼 하나님이 그에게 열방을 다스리는 놀라운 권세를 주신 것을 알아채는 사람은 많지 않습니다.

느부갓네살 왕이 7년 간 들짐승처럼 산 이후, 하나님은 그분의 사랑과 자비 안에서 느부갓네살 왕을 왕궁으로 돌려보내셨고, 모든 사람이 그를 다시 영접했습니다. 하나님은 그를 위해 왕좌를 보존하고 계셨습니다. 다니엘 4:34-35에 나오는 그의 아름다운 간증을 읽어보십시오.

또 다른 놀라운 예시는 므낫세의 이야기입니다. 므낫세의 통치는 사악함과 하나님에 대한 반역으로 표현됩니다. 그러나 므낫세가 자신의 죄를 회개했을 때, 하나님은 자비를 베푸셨습니다. 또한 아합 왕의 이야기를 보면, 하나님이 보시기에 그는 이전의 어떤 왕보다도 많은 악을 행했습니다.

기도

거룩하고 의로우신 아버지, 인류를 향한 당신의 크나큰 사랑과 예수 그리스도를 통한 구원에 감사드립니다. 하나님의 사랑은 나로 하여금 잃어버린 자들에게 복음을 전파하고, 그들을 죄에서 의로, 사탄의 권세에서 하나님께로 돌이키도록 강권합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

THE DEPTH OF HIS LOVE

“O GIVE thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever”(Psalm 136:1 AMPC).

Our heavenly Father is so gracious and kind. The depth of His love is infinite; absolutely unsearchable. The Bible says while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). His love is for everybody, including the worst criminals; no one is too evil or wicked for Him to love.

No wonder the Apostle Paul, by the Spirit, had to pray for the Church to be able to grasp—empowered to discover—the great magnitude of the boundless and amazing love of the Father. How deeply intimate, far-reaching, enduring and inclusive His love is; endless love beyond measurement that transcends our understanding (Ephesians 3:18)!

Think about a man like King Nebuchadnezzar, for example; many only remember him as a devilish figure, or an evil ruler because of what we read of him in 2 Kings 24:13-16. But not many observe God’s enduring love and mercy for him after he repented, and the incredible authority God granted him over the nations as revealed in Daniel chapter 4.

After he had lived like a beast of the field for seven years, God, in His love and mercy returned Him to the palace, and everyone received him. God preserved the throne for him. Read of his beautiful testimony in Daniel 4:34-35.

Another astonishing example is that of Manasseh. Manasseh’s reign was marked by wickedness and rebellion against God. But when he repented of his sins, God showed him mercy. Then we come to King Ahab; the Bible says he did evil in the sight of God above all the other kings before him.

Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him (1 Kings 16:30-33). But as soon as Ahab repented, God spoke to Elijah, saying, “Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days…” (1 Kings 21:29).

Sometimes, when we think about people who have committed grave wrongs, we wonder why God tolerated them. It’s the depth of His love. He’s full of compassion. If God would show such grace to Nebuchadnezzar, Ahab and Manasseh, I don’t see anyone in this world whom He wouldn’t love.

God didn’t send Jesus to die for us because we were living right; He did it while we were yet sinners: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him” (Romans 5:8-9).

PRAYER

Holy, righteous Father, thank you for your immense love for humanity and the provision of salvation through Jesus Christ; this love compels me to preach the Gospel to the lost, and turn them from sin unto righteousness, and from the power of Satan unto God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

More Than A “Masterpiece”

“모든 성경은 하나님의 감동으로 된 것으로 교훈과 책망과 바르게 함과 의로 교육하기에 유익하니 이는 하나님의 사람으로 온전하게 하며 모든 선한 일을 행할 능력을 갖추게 하려 함이라”(딤후 3:16-17)

어떤 사람들은 성경을 존중하면서도 단지 “매그넘 오푸스(Magnum Opus)”라고 여기기도 합니다. 성경을 “매그넘 오푸스”라고 부르는 것은 “대작” 혹은 “걸작품”이라는 뜻입니다. “대작”이라 하면 성경이 “위대한 작품” 또는 “걸작”이라는 뜻입니다. 이 단어는 어떤 분야에서 가장 중요하거나 유명한 작품을 말하며, 뛰어난 퀄리티나 중요성을 지닌 문학, 예술 또는 음악 작품을 설명할 때 자주 사용됩니다.

하지만 그런 모든 좋은 설명들도 여전히 성경이 무엇이고, 어떤 내용을 담고 있는지 제대로 설명하지 못합니다. 첫째, 성경은 성령의 감동으로 된 것입니다. “모든 성경은 하나님의 감동으로 된 것으로…”(딤후 3:16) 따라서, 성경은 계시입니다. 곧 하나님의 호흡을 모아둔 책이며, 글로 나타난 하나님의 계시입니다.

구약부터 신약까지 읽을 때, 우리는 하나님의 메시지 혹은 말씀하신 내용인 그분의 증언을 읽는 것입니다. 물론 성경은 천사들이나 사람들, 심지어는 마귀와 사탄이 한 말도 포함하고 있습니다. 심지어 민수기 22:28-30에는 동물(나귀)의 말도 우리를 위해 기록되어 있습니다. 그러나 여전히 성경은 하나님의 증언입니다.

그러므로 성경은 걸작품 그 이상입니다. 성경은 하나님의 진리의 책입니다. 성경은 신뢰할 수 있고, 믿을 수 있습니다. 성경을 향한 당신의 믿음을 견고히 하십시오.

MORE THAN A “MASTERPIECE”

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works”(2 Timothy 3:16-17).

There are those who even though revere the Bible, merely think of it as a Magnum Opus. By saying it’s the “Magnum opus” they mean that the Bible is a “great work” or “masterpiece”; as it were, one of the most significant or renowned piece of work in any field, often used to describe a literary, artistic, or musical work of exceptional quality or significance.

But all such nice descriptions still fall short of what the Bible is and represents. First, the Bible is Spirit inspired: “Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration)…” (2 Timothy 3:16 AMPC). Thus, the Bible is a revelation; a compilation of the out-breathings of God; it’s God’s revelation given in words.

When we read the Bible, from the Old Testament into the New Testament, we’re reading God’s message, or what God said—His testimony. Of course, the Bible also contains what others said, such as angels, humans, demons, and even Satan. Even what an animal (a donkey), said is recorded for us in Numbers 22:28-30. But still, the Bible is God’s testimony that they all said what they said.

Therefore, much more than a Magnum Opus, the Bible is God’s document of truth, and it’s trustworthy and dependable. Let your faith in it be unshakeable.

Prayer

Dear Father, I thank you for the privilege of having your Word, the Holy Scriptures. I acknowledge that your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. My heart and mind are open to receive the truths and wisdom contained therein. I’m guided by your Spirit and the Holy Scriptures, as my faith is strengthened, and my mind renewed, in Jesus’ Name. Keep Satan In Check

“그런즉 너희는 하나님께 복종할지어다 마귀를 대적하라 그리하면 너희를 피하리라”(약 4:7)

오늘의 본문 구절은 당신에게 사탄을 견제하고 사탄의 책략, 조작, 악한 파괴적인 행위를 제지할 책임이 있음을 알려줍니다. 성경은 사탄을 거짓말쟁이, 거짓의 아비, 속임수의 창시자로 설명합니다.

예수님은 요한복음 8:44에서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “… 그는 처음부터 살인한 자요 진리가 그 속에 없으므로 진리에 서지 못하고 거짓을 말할 때마다 제 것으로 말하나니 이는 그가 거짓말쟁이요 거짓의 아비가 되었음이라.” 이것이 사탄이 하는 일입니다. 그는 죽이는 자입니다.

사탄은 우정을 추구하지 않습니다. 오히려 그는 죽음을 계획합니다. 속임수와 멸망은 사탄으로부터 비롯된 수많은 일들 중 하나입니다. 그는 악한 자라고 불립니다. 즉, 그가 하는 모든 일이 악하다는 뜻입니다. 이러한 설명은 우리가 사탄에게 기회를 줘서는 안됨을 분명히 보여줍니다.

사탄에 맞서서 행동할 수 있는 권세로 인해 하나님께 감사드립니다! 주 예수님은 마가복음 16:17에서 말씀하셨습니다. “믿는 자들에게는 이런 표적이 따르리니 곧 그들이 내 이름으로 귀신을 쫓아내며…” 그러므로 우리는 사탄을 우리의 나라, 도시, 거리, 가정, 환경에서 쫓아내야 합니다. 그렇지 않으면 사탄은 자신의 본성에 내재되어 있는 일들, 곧 비열함, 사악함, 살인, 속임수를 계속해서 행할 것입니다.

하나님은 “마귀를 대적하라 그리하면 너희를 피할 수도 있다”고 말씀하지 않으셨습니다. 아닙니다! 야고보는 성령으로 말미암아 당신이 마귀를 대적할 때 일어나는 결과에 대해 말했습니다. 마귀는 공포에 질려 당신으로부터 도망칠 것입니다. 당신의 도시나 나라, 가정 또는 어디든지 사탄의 일을 목격하면 말씀대로 행하십시오. 하나님의 말씀을 선포하며 사탄을 대적하십시오. 그리고 사탄을 내쫓으십시오.

기도

KEEP SATAN IN CHECK

“So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you”(James 4:7 AMPC).

Our opening scripture implies that you have a responsibility to keep Satan in check, to restrain him from carrying out his manoeuvres, manipulations and destructive acts of wickedness. The Bible describes him as a liar, the father of lies and the originator of deception.

Jesus said in John 8:44, “…He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” That’s his role: he’s a killer.

Satan doesn’t seek friendship, but rather aims to kill. Deception and destruction are among the many works attributed to him. He is referred to as the evil one and the wicked one, meaning that all his works are evil. These descriptions clearly demonstrate that we can’t give him a chance.

Thank God we have the ability to take action against him! In Mark 16:17, the Lord Jesus said, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils….” So we must cast him out of our nations, cities, streets, homes and our environments. Otherwise, he will keep doing things that are inherent to his nature: evil, wickedness, killings, and deception.

God didn’t say, “…resist the devil and he might flee,” no! When you resist the devil, James, by the Spirit tells us the result: he’ll run away from you in terror. When you see the works of Satan in your city, in your country, in your family or anywhere—do what the Word says: resist him by affirming the Word of God and on other occasions, cast him out.

PRAYER

In the Name of the Lord Jesus, I resist the devil’s influence in my life, in my family, city and nation. Through the Word and by the Spirit, I discern and identify the works of the devil, and stop him in his tracks, from manipulating, deceiving, and misleading the nations, the leaders and the people. Amen.

Contending For Lost Souls

우리는 영혼구원에 대해서 우리가 “싸움”을 하고 있다는 것을 인지해야 합니다. 사도 바울은 이를 믿음의 선한 싸움이라고 부릅니다. 사람들이 구원을 경험하는 일을 막는 악한 영들이 있기 때문입니다.

죄인들이 복음을 받아들이지 못하는 이유는 복음이 어렵거나 모호해서가 아닙니다. 사탄이 그들의 마음을 눈멀게 했기 때문입니다. 이것이 오늘의 본문 구절에서 우리가 읽은 내용입니다. 사탄은 그들이 진리를 이해하고 받아들이는 것을 방해하기 위해 아주 적극적으로 활동하고 있습니다. 따라서 우리는 이 영혼들을 위해 중보해야 합니다.

이는 바울이 갈라디아서 4:19에서 말한 내용을 떠올리게 합니다. “나의 자녀들아 너희 속에 그리스도의 형상을 이루기까지 다시 너희를 위하여 해산하는 수고를 하노니.” 바로 영혼을 위한 수고입니다! 당신은 그들의 영적 성장과 전진을 막는 모든 저항이 없어지도록 기도하십시오. 그들이 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 아는 지식과 은혜 안에서 성장할 때, 성령의 역사에 대한 그들의 갈망이 이루어지도록 열정적으로 기도하십시오.

CONTENDING FOR LOST SOULS

“But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4 NKJV).

When it comes to winning souls, we must recognize that we are engaged in a “fight.” The Apostle Paul calls it the good fight of faith, because there are evil and desperately wicked spirits that seek to keep people away from experiencing salvation.

If the sinners don’t receive the Gospel, it’s not because our gospel is difficult, or obscure; it’s because Satan has blinded their minds. That’s what we read in our opening verse. Satan is actively working to obstruct their understanding and reception of the truth; that’s why we must intercede for them.

Soul winning is more than just telling someone about Christ; there’s also the fight we fight in prayers. Even when they hear and accept our message, Satan then shifts his strategy to hinder their growth and progress in Christ, attempting to impede their journey of spiritual maturity. What are we supposed to do? Fight! We contend for their souls in prayer.

It brings to mind what Paul said in Galatians 4:19, “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you” (Galatians 4:19). This is soul-travail! You pray passionately that every resistance to their spiritual growth and progress is broken. And that their desire for the things of the Spirit is sustained in them as they grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Have these in mind as you go forth preaching the Gospel everywhere. Always pray that those with whom you share the message will receive it with faith, and that Satan’s bondage and deception are destroyed. Amen.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I am grateful you entrusted me with the sacred task of sharing the message of eternal life to those around me and in distant lands. I’m filled with a deepened sense of zeal for lost souls, and I affirm that the radiant light of your glorious Gospel shines brightly in the hearts of the lost. I declare that this light dismantles the chains of religious bondage and dispels darkness, bringing forth freedom and salvation, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

다른 사람들이 당신에게 못되게 굴고 있다 할지라도, 하나님이 당신에게 기대하시는 반응은 단 하나입니다. 바로 사랑입니다! 다른 사람의 나쁜 행동이나 태도로 인해 당신이 복수심으로 가득해지거나 분개해서는 안 됩니다.

당신의 친절함이 누군가에게 이용당하는 것처럼 느껴질 때도, 당신의 정체성을 유지하십시오. 사랑으로 가득하고, 다정하고, 용서하는 마음을 유지하십시오. 진정으로 승리하는 유일한 길은 사랑의 능력입니다. 당신의 삶에 나타나는 사랑의 역사가 당신을 높입니다.

당신의 인격은 당신에게서 흘러나오는 하나님의 사랑으로 측정됩니다. 하나님께는 사랑이 모든 것의 최종적 척도입니다. 그러므로 타협하지 말고 사랑 안에서 행하십시오. 하나님의 사랑의 표현이 되십시오.

하나님의 자녀인 당신의 본성은 사랑입니다. 당신은 사랑하도록 설정되어 있습니다. 사랑의 언어를 말하고, 사랑의 씨앗을 뿌리십시오. 성경은 우리에게 사랑의 행보에서 하나님을 본받는 자가 되라고 말합니다. “그러므로 너희는 사랑스런 자녀로서 하나님을 따르는 자가 되고 그리스도께서 우리를 사랑하사 우리를 위해 자신을 향기로운 헌물과 희생물로 하나님께 드리신 것 같이 사랑 안에서 걸으라.”(엡 5:1-2, 킹제임스 흠정역)

하나님은 사랑이십니다(요일 4:8). 그러므로 당신의 삶에 나타난 하나님의 역사는 곧 사랑의 역사입니다. 당신의 삶에서 하나님의 사랑이 보이지 않는다면, 하나님 또한 보이지 않는 것입니다. 따라서 아버지의 사랑이 언제나 당신의 생각, 행동, 다른 사람과의 관계를 인도하게 하십시오.

고백

나는 사랑 안에서 행하고, 언제나 사랑으로 반응합니다. 하나님의 사랑이 나의 생각과 행동과 반응을 지배합니다. 따라서 나는 사랑 안에서 행하고 하나님의 진리와 일치하는 삶을 살 때 나타나는 성취와 축복을 지속적으로 경험합니다. 아멘.

THE OUTWORKING OF LOVE

“Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 13:10 NIV).

It makes no difference how others mistreat you; there’s only one way God expects you to respond: in love! The bad behaviour or attitude of others should never get you to be vengeful or resentful.

Even when you feel that your kindness is being taken advantage of; maintain who you are; remain loving, tender-hearted and forgiving. The only way to truly win is through the power of love. The outworking of love in your life is what elevates you.

The quality of your personality is measured by the outflow of God’s love from you. Before God, love is the ultimate measurement of everything. So walk in love without compromise; be the manifestation of God’s love.

Your nature as a child of God is the nature of love; you’re programmed to love. Speak the love language and sow seeds of love. The Bible says for us to be imitators of God in our love-walk: “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma” (Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV).

God is love (1 John 4:8). Therefore, the outworking of God in your life is synonymous with the outworking of love. If the love of God remains unseen in your life, then God is also unseen. So, always, let the Father’s love guide your thoughts, actions, and interactions with others.

CONFESSION

I walk in love and respond always with love. The love of God governs my thoughts, actions, and responses. Therefore, I continually experience the fulfilment and blessings that come from walking in love, and living in alignment with God’s truths. Amen.
