진정한 영적 성장
Real Spiritual Growth
“우리가 다 하나님의 아들을 믿는 것과 아는 일에 하나가 되어 온전한 사람을 이루어 그리스도의 장성한 분량이 충만한 데까지 이르리니” (엡 4:13)
우리 모두 누군가에 의해 이 세상에 태어났습니다. 당신은 아기로 태어났지만 태어난 순간부터 완전한 인간이었습니다. 그러나 당신은 어른이 되기 위해 성장해야 했습니다. 당신은 “더 인간”이 되기 위해 성장한 것이 아니라 성숙해지기 위해 성장했습니다. 그리고 당신이 성숙해지면서 지혜와 이해력을 얻었고, 어린아이일 때보다 인간이 할 수 있는 일들을 더 잘할 수 있는 능력을 얻었습니다.
영적으로도 마찬가지입니다. 당신은 거듭났을 때 하나님의 본성을 가지고 태어났습니다. 당신은 시간이 지남에 따라 “더 하나님을 닮은” 존재가 되지 않았습니다. 당신은 하나님의 형상과 모양대로 태어났습니다. 당신은 영적으로 태어난 그 순간부터 하나님을 닮고 그분처럼 기능하도록 태어났습니다. 당신은 하나님의 말씀과 성령으로 태어나 그분의 신성한 본성을 소유했습니다. 하지만 당신은 영적으로 성숙해져야 합니다.
영적 성장은 당신 안에 있는 하나님의 생명의 충만함을 나타낼 수 있게 합니다. 영적으로 성숙할수록 당신의 삶을 향한 하나님의 계획을 더 효과적으로 성취하고 그분의 능력 안에서 기능할 수 있습니다. 이것이 바로 어떤 그리스도인들이 자신의 노력에도 불구하고 원하는 결과를 보지 못하는 이유입니다. 특정한 영적 책임과 나타남은 지속되기 위해 성장을 필요로 합니다.
어떤 일들은 우연히 일어날 수도 있지만, 그것들이 지속되기 위해서는 당신의 영적 성숙이 필요하기 때문에 지속되지 않을 수도 있습니다. 그래서 우리는 “…우리 주 곧 구주 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 그를 아는 지식에서 자라 가라”(벧후 3:18)고 권면 받습니다. 에베소서 4:15은 우리에게 “…범사에 그에게까지 자랄지라 그는 머리니 곧 그리스도라”고 말합니다.
말씀을 먹고 영적으로 성장하면 당신의 삶을 향한 하나님의 목적의 충만함 가운데 행하게 되고, 왕국에서 영원한 결과를 맺게 될 것입니다. 그러므로 말씀과 하나님을 아는 지식 안에서 성장하고, 기도와 성령님과의 교제에 부지런하십시오. 베드로전서 2:2은 말합니다. “갓난 아기들 같이 순전하고 신령한 젖을 사모하라 이는 그로 말미암아 너희로 구원에 이르도록 자라게 하려 함이라”
영적으로 성장하고 말씀 안에서 성숙해지려면 말씀을 공부할 뿐만 아니라 행해야 합니다. “너희는 말씀을 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라”(약 1:22) 당신 안에 남아 있는 것은 당신이 행한 말씀입니다. 단순히 성경 구절을 암기하는 것은 성숙으로 이끌지 못합니다. 진정한 성장은 말씀을 행하는 것, 즉 일상생활에서 말씀을 살아내는 것에서 옵니다.
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 거듭남을 통해 나에게 하나님의 신성한 본성을 주시니 감사합니다. 나는 하나님의 말씀을 아는 지식 안에서 성장하고 매일 성령 안에서 행하기로 결단합니다. 나는 그리스도 안에서 성장하고, 말씀 안에서 성장하고, 성령과의 교제 가운데 있을 때, 복음의 충만한 축복 가운데 행하고 내 삶을 향한 하나님의 목적을 성취합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

REAL SPIRITUAL GROWTH
“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13).
Every one of us was born into this world by someone, isn’t that right? You came in as a baby, but from the moment you were born, you were a complete human being. However, you had to grow to become an adult. You didn’t grow to become “more human,” but to become mature. And as you matured, you gained wisdom, understanding, and the ability to do the things that human beings do, better than when they’re children.
It’s the same thing spiritually. When you were born again, you were born with the nature of God. You didn’t become “more like God” over time; you were born in His image and in His likeness; you were born to look like Him and to function like Him from the very moment of your spiritual birth. You were born of the Word of God and by the Spirit of God, possessing His divine nature from day one. But then you must grow to spiritual maturity.
Spiritual growth enables you to manifest the fullness of the God-life in you. The more spiritually mature you are, the more effectively you can fulfil God’s plan for your life and operate in His power. This is why, at times, some Christians don’t see the results they desire despite their efforts; certain spiritual responsibilities and manifestations require growth to be sustained.
Some things may happen randomly, but they may not last because they require your spiritual maturity to make them permanent. It’s the reason we’re admonished to “…grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). Ephesians 4:15 instructs us to “…grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.”
As you feed on the Word and mature spiritually, you’ll walk in the fullness of God’s purpose for your life and produce lasting results in the Kingdom. So, grow in the Word and the knowledge of God and be diligent in prayer and fellowship with the Spirit. 1 Peter 2:2 says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby.”
To grow spiritually and mature in the Word, you must not only study it but also act on it: “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22). It’s the Word that you do that remains in you. Simply memorizing Scriptures will not lead to maturity. Real growth comes from doing the Word—living it out in your daily life.
PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for imparting your divine nature to me at the New Birth. I commit to growing in the knowledge of your Word and walking in the Spirit every day. I walk in the full blessing of the Gospel, fulfilling your purpose for my life, as I grow in Christ, in and by the Word, consistent in fellowshipping with the Spirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
