Reigning In The Midst Of Adversities

“그가 모든 원수를 그 발 아래에 둘 때까지 반드시 왕 노릇 하시리니”(고전 15:25)

어떤 사람들은 오늘의 본문 구절이 아직 모든 원수가 예수 발 아래 있지는 않다는 뜻이라고 생각합니다. 그러나 위 구절이 말하는 바는 그렇지 않습니다. 위 구절이 “그가 모든 원수를 그 발 아래에 둘 때 그리스도께서 왕 노릇 할 것이다”라고 말하지 않음을 보십시오. 오히려 “그가 모든 원수를 그 발 아래에 둘 때까지”라고 말합니다. 다시 말해, 그분이 그들의 원수 가운데 다스리신다는 뜻입니다.

오늘의 본문 구절에서 읽은 것처럼, 통치 혹은 “왕 노릇” 해야 하시는 주 예수님께서는 다스릴 원수가 없는 하늘에 계십니다. 이는 다스릴 장소는 이 땅이라는 의미입니다. 그렇다면 그분께서 어떻게 다스리십니까? 바로 교회, 즉 우리를 통해 다스리십니다.

골로새서 1:18은 말합니다. “그는 몸인 교회의 머리시라…” 예수님은 머리이시고, 교회는 그분의 몸입니다. 그리고 위 구절에서 강조된 발은 몸의 일부입니다. 따라서, 예수님께서는 모든 원수가 그리스도의 몸인 모든 지체에게 복종할 때까지 이 땅에서 계속 다스리십니다.

예수님께서 다시 오시기 전에 그런 일이 일어나야 합니다. 주님께서 가난하고, 약하고, 연약하고, 부서지기 쉬운 교회를 위해 오시는 것이 아니라는 것을 아시겠습니까? 그분은 승리하는 교회를 위해 오십니다(엡 5:27). 성경은 그분이 “그들로 우리 하나님 앞에서 나라와 제사장들을 삼으셨으니 그들이 땅에서 왕 노릇 하리로다 하더라”(계 5:10)고 말합니다.

주 예수님께서 요한복음 16:33에서 “… 세상에서는 너희가 환난을 당하나 담대하라 내가 세상을 이기었노라”고 말씀하신 것은 당연합니다. 우리는 그분에게서 났고, 그분을 믿는 우리의 믿음은 세상을 이기는 승리입니다. 이제 당신은 야고보서 1:2에서 여러 가지 시험을 당할 때 기쁨으로 여기라고 말하는 이유를 알 수 있습니다. 우리가 역경 가운데 다스리기 때문입니다.

이는 다윗이 “주께서 내 원수의 목전에서 내게 상을 차려 주시고…”(시 23:5) 라고 말한 것을 생각나게 합니다. 원수는 중요치 않습니다. 당신은 그들 가운데서 통치하고, 다스리고, 기뻐합니다. 하나님께 영광 드립니다!

REIGNING IN THE MIDST OF ADVERSITIES

“For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet” (1 Corinthians 15:25)

Some read the verse above and assume it means all enemies aren’t yet under Jesus’ feet, but that’s not what it’s saying. Observe that it doesn’t say that Christ will reign “when” He has put all enemies under His feet. Rather, it says, “…until He has put all enemies under His feet.” In other words, He reigns in the midst of His enemies.

The Greek word translated reign is ‘basileuō’ (a verb), and it means to rule or to king. To truly grasp this, let’s review an aspect of Romans 5:17; it says, “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.”

The Lord Jesus, who must reign or “king” as read in our opening verse is in heaven where there are no enemies to reign over. This means the place to reign is here on earth, and how is He to reign? It’s through the Church; it’s through us.

Colossians 1:18 (NIV) says, “And he [Jesus] is the head of the body, the church….” Jesus is the head, the Church is His body, and the feet as highlighted in the theme text are a part of the body. Thus, Jesus continues to reign in the earth until all the enemies are subject to every member of the body of Christ.

That must happen before Jesus comes back. Can you see that the Lord isn’t coming for a beggarly, weakly, feeble or frail church? No! He’s coming for a triumphant Church (Ephesians 5:27). The Bible says He has “…made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth” (Revelation 5:10).

No wonder the Lord Jesus said in John 16:33, “…In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” We’re born of Him and our faith in Him is our victory over the world. Now you see why James 1:2 says to count it all joy when you go through diverse tests. That’s because we reign in the midst of adversities.

It reminds of what David said, “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies” (Psalm 23:5). The enemies don’t count. In their midst you reign, you rule, you celebrate. Glory to God!

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the victory we have in Christ Jesus. I’m a member of the body of Christ, empowered to reign, rule and walk on in victory in this world. I reign in righteousness, walk in victory and manifest your kingdom here on earth, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

정말 대단합니다! 성경은 “우리는 그분의 몸과 그분의 살과 그분의 뼈들에 속한 지체들이니라”고 말합니다. 이는 우리가 그리스도의 지체라는 뜻입니다. 바로 이것이 “일원들”이라는 의미이기도 합니다. 따라서 당신의 다리는 그리스도의 다리입니다. 당신의 손은 그리스도의 손입니다. 당신은 그분과 뗄 수 없는 하나가 되었습니다.

WE’RE THE LIMBS OF CHRIST

“For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones” (Ephesians 5:30).

This is amazing! The Bible says “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” That means we’re the limbs of Christ; that’s what the word “members” means. Therefore, your legs are Christ’s legs; your hands are His hands. You’re inseparably fused as one with Him.

This is the meaning of 1 Corinthians 6:15 where it says, “Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ?” That’s the same thing we read in Ephesians 5:30; it addresses individual members of the Church. In you, Christ is fully represented, expressed and manifested. He walks in you, talks in and through you, works in and through you.

Wherever you are, you’re the “body” of Christ—the limbs of Christ. This should be your daily consciousness. Being born again, you’ve come into union with Christ: that’s the biggest thing about our salvation. Not only has your spirit been recreated, you’ve been immersed into Christ; you became literally joined together with Him as one divine creation.

1 Corinthians 12:13 says, “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body….” Now you can understand when the Bible says your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19; 1 Corinthians 3:16). This isn’t a religious talk; it’s the reality of your life. You’re a God-carrying vessel. Divinity is at work in you and revealed in and through you. Give attention to these truths; meditate on them and live accordingly every day.

CONFESSION

I acknowledge my divine union with Christ; every part of my body functions perfectly, reflecting the life and power of Christ within me. I walk in this consciousness, knowing that Christ is fully represented, expressed and manifested in and through me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

It’s Your Job To Let Them Know

전 세계의 많은 사람들은 여전히 죄의 통치권 아래 살고 있으며, 예수 그리스도께서 그들을 죄의 권세에서 해방하기 위해 오셨다는 사실을 모르고 있습니다. 그들은 하나님께서 원하시는 대로 의롭게 살도록 그들에게 생명을 주시고자 예수 그리스도께서 오셨다는 사실을 모릅니다. 그들에게 이 사실을 알리는 것이 바로 우리의 일입니다.

기도

IT’S YOUR JOB TO LET THEM KNOW

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved…and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:13-14).

Many around the world are still living under the dominion of sin, unaware that Jesus Christ came to set them free from the power of sin. They don’t know He came to give them life so they can live righteously as God wants them to. It’s however our job to let them know.

We’ve been given the Holy Spirit to help others find truth and to lead them in the way of salvation. That’s why you’re here; the Spirit of God has filled your life with the presence, power and the grace of God to make His Word known through you to your world.

Everyone has his world. There’s a world you live in, your sphere of contacts. When someone comes into your world, they should learn about Jesus. Only through you will they know how kind and gracious He is and all that He’s done for them.

Your world should be a place where people come to hear and receive God’s Word to transform their lives. So, I ask you: What’s happening in your world? Are you making Christ known to your world or are you prioritizing some other things? Talk about Him and make His presence available to them.

Understand that though the Holy Spirit is here on earth, He doesn’t have His own body, so He uses our bodies. When Jesus walked the earth, the Holy Spirit lived in the body of Jesus. He was the one Jesus called, “my Father that lives in me” (John 14:10). That’s the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit needs your body to function. If you’ll yield to Him, He’ll come into your world and bless it. He’ll change their lives; He has the power to do it. The Bibles says, “…for with God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27). He can do anything, but He needs you to express Himself.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the privilege to share the message of salvation with those around me, and be a conduit of your eternal blessings. Through me, many more will come into the knowledge of the truth, their lives will be transformed, and they’ll become fully aware of their inextricable oneness with you, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

예수님은 유일한 길이십니다

He’s THE WAY; Not “A Way”

“다른 이로써는 구원을 받을 수 없나니 천하 사람 중에 구원을 받을 만한 다른 이름을 우리에게 주신 일이 없음이라 하였더라”(행 4:12)

성경은 다른 어떤 사람에게도 구원을 얻을 수 없다고 말합니다. 하늘 아래 우리가 구원을 받을 수 있는 다른 이름을 주신 적이 없기 때문입니다. 이는 우리에게 구원을 위한 다른 길이 있을 수 있다는 생각을 하지 않게 합니다. 구원은 오직 예수 이름 안에만 있습니다. 그리고 예수님께서도 이 부분에 대해 명확하게 말씀하셨습니다.

어떤 사람들은 다르게 생각하며 하나님께로 가는 길은 여러 가지가 있다고 확신합니다. 사실 그들은 예수님은 하나님께로 가는 여러 길 중 하나라고 주장합니다. 그들의 주장을 진지하게 받아들이기 전에, 먼저 그들이 어떻게 그렇게 말하게 되었고, 어떤 권위에 기반하여 말하는지 알아야 합니다.

또한 그들 역시 하나님께 성공적으로 나아갔는지 알아야 합니다. 만약 그들이 이러한 질문들에 대답할 수 없다면 그들의 주장은 거짓이며 자신이 무슨 말을 하는지도 전혀 모르는 것입니다. 예수님께서는 요한복음 14:6에서 명확하게 선포하셨습니다. “내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라”

주님은 “나는 여러 길 중에 하나다” 혹은 “나는 길이다”라고 말씀하지 않으셨습니다. 그분은 “나는 유일한 길이다”라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그렇다면 “하나님께로 가는 길은 몇 가지가 있습니까?”라는 질문에 대한 대답은 “간단한 답은 다음과 같습니다. 길은 오직 하나뿐입니다. 예수 그리스도가 유일한 길이십니다. 그분 외에 다른 길은 없습니다.”입니다.

어떻게 알 수 있습니까? 예수님께서 그렇게 말씀하셨고, 그 동일한 예수님께서 살아서 천국에 가셨기 때문입니다. 세계 여러 종교를 창시한 사람들은 그런 간증을 갖고 있지 않습니다. 그들이 죽었을 때, 그들의 신도들은 천국에 가기를 바랄 수밖에 없었습니다. 그러나 예수님께서는 120명의 증인들 앞에서 살아있는 상태로 천국에 가셨습니다. 그리고 그들은 예수님이 올라가시는 것을 보았습니다. 그들은 자신의 두 눈으로 예수님이 공중에 떠서 구름 위로 올라가시는 것을 보았습니다. 할렐루야!

예수 그리스도는 어제도, 오늘도, 영원히 동일하십니다. 그분은 살아 계시며 그분의 이름은 오늘날에도 여전히 능력이 있습니다. 그렇기 때문에 우리는 전 세계에서 수많은 놀라운 기적이 일어나는 것을 봅니다. 이러한 기적들은 그분이 살아 계시다는 증거입니다. 구원은 오직 예수 이름에만 있으며, 당신은 이 묵상집 76페이지에 나오는 “구원의 기도”를 기도함으로 오늘 구원받을 수 있습니다.

기도

사랑하는 주 예수님, 주님 안에 있는 모든 사람이 누릴 수 있는 구원의 축복과 영생의 선물에 감사드립니다. 나는 성령의 확신과 나타남으로 내 주위에 구원의 말씀을 담대히 전할 때, 많은 사람이 예수 그리스도를 자신의 주님과 구원자로 알게 하십니다. 아멘.

HE’S “THE WAY,” NOT “A WAY”

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

The Bible says there’s no salvation in any other, for there’s no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. This statement gives us no chance to think that there might be some other means for salvation. Salvation is only in the Name of Jesus; the Lord Himself was definite about this.

Some people think otherwise, and are convinced that there’s more than one way to get to God. In fact, they claim that Jesus is one of the many ways to God. Before taking their claim seriously, one first has to ask them how they came about what they’re saying and on what authority it is based.

They also need to tell if they’ve ever successfully gotten to God. If they can’t answer these questions, then their claims are false and they have no idea what they’re saying. In John 14:6, Jesus unambiguously declared: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

He didn’t say, “I am one of the ways,” neither did He say, “I am a way.” He said, “I am THE way.” So, to answer the question, “How many ways are there to God? The simple answer is: There’s only one way, and that’s Jesus Christ. There’s no other way besides Him.

How do I know this? It’s because Jesus said so, and the same Jesus went to heaven alive. The people who founded the various religions around the world don’t have a similar testimony. When they died, their adherents could only hope they went to heaven. But Jesus went up into heaven alive in the presence of 120 witnesses; they saw Him go. They saw Him levitate and ascend into the clouds before their eyes. Hallelujah!

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever. He’s alive and His Name still has power today, that’s why we see so many mighty miracles happening around the world. These miracles are a testimony that He’s alive. Salvation is only in His Name, and you can receive it today if you’re yet to do so by praying the “Prayer of Salvation,” which you’ll find on page 76 of this devotional.

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for the blessing of salvation and for the gift of eternal life which is available to all in you; I boldly proclaim the message of salvation to those around me, with conviction and demonstration of the Spirit, such that many may come to know you as their Lord and Saviour. Amen.

성경은 영감을 주는 하나님의 말씀을 담고 있는 믿을 만한 자료입니다. 성경은 우리가 살아가며 지침으로 삼을 인도와 방향성을 제시합니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 어떤 사람들은 성경의 세부 사항 중 일부가 맞지 않는다며 사람들이 성경을 믿지 못하게 하려고 합니다.

예를 들면, 예수님의 부활에 관한 내용도 있습니다. 성경은 예수님께서 사흘 밤낮 동안 무덤에 있다가 일요일 아침에 부활하셨다고 말합니다. 그러면 그들은 “어떻게 사흘 밤낮을 있었다고 하면서 기간이 금요일부터 일요일입니까? 계산이 맞지 않습니다.”라고 말합니다.

성경은 예수님께서 금요일에 죽으셨다고 말한 적이 없습니다. 일부 종교적인 사람들은 성경에서 예수님께서 안식일 전에 죽으셨다고 쓰여져 있고 또 토요일이 안식일이었기 때문에 그렇게 추측합니다. 그러나 그들이 놓친 부분은 성경에서 말하는 안식일은 주간 안식일이 아니라 유월절 안식일이라는 사실입니다.

이 유월절 안식일은 매년 니산월(히브리력 1월에 해당함) 14일에 열리는 특별한 행사였습니다. 따라서 이날은 특정 요일로 고정되지 않았습니다. 대부분의 나라에서 크리스마스가 12월 25일이지만, 12월 25일이 매해 월요일이 아닌 것과 같습니다.

그해 니산월 14일은 목요일이었으므로 예수님은 유월절 안식일 전날인 수요일에 십자가에 못 박히셨습니다. 마태복음, 마가복음, 누가복음은 유월절 안식일이라고 언급하지 않았지만, 요한은 이에 대해 분명히 말했습니다. “유대 사람들은 그 날이 유월절 준비일이므로, 안식일에 시체들을 십자가에 그냥 두지 않으려고, 그 시체의 다리를 꺾어서 치워달라고 빌라도에게 요청하였다. 그 안식일은 큰 날이었기 때문이다.”(요 19:31, 새번역)

이는 성금요일을 기념하는 것을 비판하려는 것이 아니라, 예수님께서 “요나가 밤낮 사흘 동안 큰 물고기 뱃속에 있었던 것 같이 인자도 밤낮 사흘 동안 땅 속에 있으리라”(마 12:40)고 말씀하신 것이 정확했음을 보여주는 것입니다.

그분은 수요일에 십자가에 못 박히셨고, 일요일 새벽이 되기 전에 부활하셨습니다. 또한 이것은 성경이 믿을 만하다는 것을 보여줍니다. 성경은 종교서 그 이상이므로 그 기록을 신뢰할 수 있습니다. 성경은 하나님을 증거합니다.

NO CONTRADICTIONS IN THE BIBLE

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The Bible is a trustworthy material that contains the inspired Word of God, and provides guidance and direction for us to live by. Some people however try to discredit it by claiming some of its details don’t add up.

An example is about the resurrection of Jesus; the Bible says He resurrected on Sunday morning after being in the grave for three days and three nights. So, they ask, “How could it have been three days and three nights from Friday to Sunday morning? It doesn’t add up.”

Well, the Bible never said Jesus died on Friday. Some religious people assumed this to be so because they read in the Bible that Jesus died the day before the Sabbath and they knew that Saturday was Sabbath. What they didn’t know was that the Sabbath the Bible was referring to wasn’t the weekly Sabbath, but the Passover Sabbath.

This Passover Sabbath was a special event that took place on the 14th day of the month of Nisan every year. It therefore wasn’t fixed to any particular day of the week. It’s just the same way Christmas is on the 25th of December for most of the world, but the 25th of December doesn’t fall on a Monday every year.

That year, the 14th day of Nisan fell on a Thursday. And so, Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday, the day before the Passover Sabbath. The gospels of Mathew, Mark and Luke didn’t mention that this was Passover Sabbath, but John clearly stated it, “…the Jewish leaders didn’t want the bodies hanging there the next day, which was the Sabbath (and a very special Sabbath, because it was Passover week)” (John 19:31 NLT).

The purpose of this isn’t to criticize the celebration of Good Friday; no. Rather, it’s to show that Jesus was accurate when He said, “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the fish’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Matthew 12:40).

He was crucified on Wednesday, and before dawn on Sunday, He had risen. This also shows that the Bible is trustworthy. You can trust its writings, because it’s more than a religious book; it’s the testimony of God.

PRAYER

Dear Father, your Word is trustworthy and true; it’s a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. I’m strengthened, firmly grounded in the accuracy and reliability of the Scriptures, for it’s profitable for every aspect of my life, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

An Extraordinary Life

“그들이 심히 두려워하여 서로 말하되 그가 누구이기에 바람과 바다도 순종하는가 하였더라”(막 4:41)

예수님은 이 땅에 계시는 동안 기적적인 삶을 사셨을 뿐만 아니라, 그분의 죽음, 장사, 부활도 특별했습니다. 십자가에 못 박힌 사람이 죽는 데는 보통 최소 13시간이 걸립니다. 그러나 예수님께서 십자가에 못 박히셨을 때는 6시간 후에 숨을 거두셨습니다.

성경은 예수님께서 십자가 위에서 아버지께 큰 소리로 “… 아버지 내 영혼을 아버지 손에 부탁하나이다 하고 이 말씀을 하신 후 숨지시니라”(눅 23:46)고 말합니다. 예수님께서는 이렇게 말씀하신 후에 그분의 성령을 내보내며 숨을 거두셨습니다.

그분께서 정말 죽으셨는지 확인하려고 한 군인이 창을 들고 그분의 옆구리를 찔렀습니다. 지켜보던 군인들과 유대인들이 물과 섞인 피가 흘러나와 그분의 심장이 멈췄음을 보고는 놀랐습니다. 그들은 그렇게 짧은 시간 만에 예수님께서 죽으신 것에 대해 충격을 받았습니다.

예수님의 부활도 특별했습니다. 로마인들은 유대인 지도자들의 요청에 따라 예수님이 묻힌 무덤을 큰 돌로 막고 무장한 군인들을 배치하여 그 무덤을 지키게 했습니다.

셋째 날, 해와 같이 빛나는 천사가 하늘에서 내려왔습니다. 그는 큰 돌을 옮기고 그 위에 앉았고, 예수님께서 영광스럽게 무덤에서 나오셨습니다. 할렐루야! 그 후에 예수님께서는 제자들과 함께 40일 밤낮을 함께 계셨습니다.

그분은 떠나시던 날 갑자기 사라지지 않으셨습니다. 제자들과 대화하시며 그들에게 지시를 내리시고, 중력의 법칙을 무시하며 공중으로 오르셨습니다. 제자들은 예수님께서 구름 안으로 끝까지 올라가실 때까지 그분이 계속 올라가시는 것을 놀랍게 지켜보았습니다. 정말 특별한 순간이었습니다.

성경은 머지 않아 어느 날 동일한 예수님께서 특별한 방식으로 다시 오실 것이며, 온 세상이 그분을 보게 될 것이라고 말합니다. 영광스러운 날이 될 것입니다. 그리고 우리 모두는 곧 있을 주님의 재림을 준비하고 있습니다.

그분은 우리를 특별한 영광의 삶으로 부르셨고, 우리가 이 탁월함과 은혜의 삶을 다른 사람들에게 알리고 그분의 영광스러운 재림을 위해 그들을 준비시키기를 원하십니다.

기도

주 예수님, 주님 안에 있는 놀라운 기적과 능력과 영광의 삶에 감사드립니다. 나를 구원의 메시지를 전하고 곧 있을 주님의 재림을 위해 사람들의 심령을 준비시키는 그릇으로 삼아주셔서 감사합니다. 아멘.

AN EXTRAORDINARY LIFE

“And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” (Mark 4:41).

Not only did Jesus live an extraordinary life of the miraculous while He was on earth, even His death, burial, and resurrection were extraordinary. It normally takes at least thirteen hours for a crucified man to die. But when Jesus was crucified, He commanded His own death after six hours.

On the Cross, the Bible says He cried with a loud voice to Father and said, “…into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost” (Luke 23:46). When He said those words, He released His spirit to die.

To confirm if He was really dead, a solider took a spear and thrust it into His side. To the amazement of the soldiers and the Jews who were watching, blood mingled with water gushed out, showing that His heart had ruptured. They were shocked that He had died within that space of time.

His resurrection was also extraordinary. Upon the request of the Jewish leaders, the Romans had sealed the grave where Jesus was buried with a great stone and assigned armed soldiers to watch it.

On the third day, an angel, glittering like the sun, came down from heaven. The angel moved the great stone away and sat on it and Jesus gloriously came out of the grave. Hallelujah! He was later with His disciples for forty days and forty nights.

On the day He was to leave, He didn’t suddenly disappear. While talking with His disciples and giving them instructions, He levitated from the ground, defying the law of gravity. His disciples watched in utter amazement as He kept ascending, until He went all the way into the clouds. This was a most extraordinary moment.

The Bible says one day, and it’s no longer far away, this same Jesus will return again in an extraordinary fashion and the whole world will see Him. It’s going to be glorious; and we’re all getting ready for the Master’s soon return.

He’s called us to an extraordinary life of glory and wants us to make this life of excellence and grace known to others, and prepare them for His glorious return.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank you for the extraordinary life of miracles, power and glory that we have in you. Thank you for making me a vessel to spread the message of salvation and prepare the hearts of men for your soon return. Amen.

Sustained By The Spirit

“예수를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 이의 영이 너희 안에 거하시면 그리스도 예수를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 이가 너희 안에 거하시는 그의 영으로 말미암아 너희 죽을 몸도 살리시리라”(롬 8:11)

사도 바울은 성령으로 말미암아 에베소서 5:30에서 심오한 내용을 설명했습니다. 그는 “우리는 그 몸의 지체임이라”고 말했습니다. 이 선포는 우리가 지역 교회의 일원이라는 것을 넘어서는 내용입니다. 그리스도의 몸, 살, 뼈의 지체라는 말은 우리와 그분과의 뗄 수 없는 하나됨, 그리스도와의 연합과 친밀함을 묘사합니다.

SUSTAINED BY THE SPIRIT

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you” (Romans 8:11).

By the Spirit, the Apostle Paul explained something profound in Ephesians 5:30. He said, “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” This statement goes beyond us being the members of a local church. By referring to us as members of Christ’s body, of His flesh, and of His bones, it describes our inextricable oneness with Him—our unity and intimacy with Christ Himself.

But did you notice that Paul didn’t say, “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, his bones, and of his blood.” You need to understand that Christ’s body doesn’t have any blood anymore. Jesus gave His blood as a sacrificial offering during His crucifixion. His blood was entirely drained out when a Roman soldier pierced His side with a spear, causing blood and water to gush out (John 19:34). By the time Jesus was buried, there was no blood left in His body.

However, on the third day, the Holy Spirit came upon Him, quickened the dead body of Jesus, and brought Him back to life. Therefore, Jesus’ resurrected body does not contain blood but is sustained by the power of the Holy Spirit. And as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17).

Before you were born again, your body lived by blood. But now that the Holy Spirit lives in you, even though there’s blood in your body, your sustenance is by the Spirit. No wonder Paul asserts in Romans 8:11, “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

Often, you should declare, “I don’t live by blood. I live by the Holy Ghost. Therefore, cancer, blood disorders, or any form of infection can’t thrive in my body because I am sustained by the Holy Ghost.”

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the Holy Spirit who lives in me and gives life to every fibre of my being, keeping me in divine health. Every part of my body is vitalized and strengthened by your Spirit, from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Poverty Isn’t God’s Design

“학대 받은 자가 부끄러이 돌아가게 하지 마시고 가난한 자와 궁핍한 자가 주의 이름을 찬송하게 하소서 하나님이여 일어나 주의 원통함을 푸시고 우매한 자가 종일 주를 비방하는 것을 기억하소서”(시 74:21-22)

시편 74편에는 선지자 아삽의 아름답고 감동적인 기도가 나옵니다. 그는 이렇게 기도했습니다. “그 언약을 눈여겨 보소서 무릇 땅의 어두운 곳에 포악한 자의 처소가 가득하나이다 학대 받은 자가 부끄러이 돌아가게 하지 마시고 가난한 자와 궁핍한 자가 주의 이름을 찬송하게 하소서”(시 74:20-21)

아삽의 기도는 억압받는 사람들에 대한 공통된 관심을 나타냅니다. 억압받는 사람들은 하나님께 자신보다 더 강한 사람들이 구출해 주기만을 바랄 수 있었습니다. 따라서 억압받는 사람들을 수치로부터 보호해달라는 아삽의 간청은 그들이 하나님의 개입을 얼마나 의지하는지 강조합니다.

얼마 전, 우리는 많은 집들을 파괴한 산불에 대해 들었습니다. 많은 가족들이 위험에 빠졌고, 그들은 탈출할 기회가 많지 않았습니다. 이 피해자들은 그들을 침묵시키려는 강력한 가해자들과 마주하고 있으며 우리가 기도해야 할 가난하고 궁핍한 사람들의 전형입니다. 우리의 열렬한 기도와 행동을 통해 악을 물리치고 이 사람들에게 소망을 줄 수 있습니다. 재정적 지원만으로는 충분치 않습니다. 교육과 훈련이 필수입니다.

예수님께서는 누가복음 4:18-19에서 말씀하셨습니다. “주의 성령이 내게 임하셨으니 이는 가난한 자에게 복음을 전하게 하시려고 내게 기름을 부으시고 나를 보내사 포로 된 자에게 자유를, 눈 먼 자에게 다시 보게 함을 전파하며 눌린 자를 자유롭게 하고 주의 은혜의 해를 전파하게 하려 하심이라 하였더라” 복음이 자유롭게 전파되는 곳마다 사람들이 변화되고, 가난한 사람들은 더 이상 가난해지지 않습니다. 그러므로 어디에 있든지 복음을 전하는 데 힘쓰십시오. 그러면 점점 더 많은 사람들의 삶이 변화될 것입니다. 아멘.

기도

POVERTY ISN’T GOD’S DESIGN

“O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name. Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily” (Psalm 74:21-22).

Psalm 74 contains a beautiful, emotive prayer from the prophet Asaph. He prayed, “Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty. O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name” (Psalm 74:20-21).

Asaph’s prayer reflected a shared concern for the oppressed. The oppressed could only hope in God for deliverance from those more powerful than themselves. Thus, Asaph’s plea for their protection from shame underscored their reliance on God’s intervention.

Some time ago, we heard of wildfires that ravaged homes; and endangered many families giving them very little chance of escape. The victims, facing powerful perpetrators who sought to silence them, epitomised the poor and needy for whom we should pray. Through our fervent prayer and actions, we can repel the evil and bring hope to the oppressed. Financial aid alone is insufficient; education and training are essential.

Most importantly, we must intercede for the poor, invoking God’s favour and grace to open their eyes to opportunities and empower them to rise above poverty. Psalm 33:5 says, “He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.” Poverty is not God’s design.

In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Wherever the Gospel has free course and is preached, the people are transformed and the poor cease to be poor. So, be committed to taking the Gospel everywhere, and more and more lives will be changed. Amen.

PRAYER

I’m empowered as an agent of change in this world and an instrument of God’s love and compassion to bring hope and relief to those in need. I pray for those who’re oppressed to experience divine protection, provision, and empowerment as they receive the light of the Gospel and walk in God’s will for their lives, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

The Master’s Claim As Son Of Man

“이에 무리가 대답하되 우리는 율법에서 그리스도가 영원히 계신다 함을 들었거늘 너는 어찌하여 인자가 들려야 하리라 하느냐 이 인자는 누구냐”(요 12:34)

주 예수님께서는 많은 경우 스스로를 “인자”라 부르셨고, 유대인들은 그 단어의 심오함을 이해했습니다. 그들은 주님께서 그리스도라고 주장하심을 알았습니다.

예를 들어, 주님께서는 마태복음 8:20에서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “… 여우도 굴이 있고 공중의 새도 거처가 있으되 인자는 머리 둘 곳이 없다 하시더라” 그리고 마가복음 14:62에서는 “… 내가 그니라 인자가 권능자의 우편에 앉은 것과 하늘 구름을 타고 오는 것을 너희가 보리라”고 말씀하셨습니다. 누가복음 9:26은 말합니다. “누구든지 나와 내 말을 부끄러워하면 인자도 자기와 아버지와 거룩한 천사들의 영광으로 올 때에 그 사람을 부끄러워하리라”

그러나 예수님께서 여러 상황에서 스스로를 “인자”라고 부르셨을 때, 이는 그분의 인간성을 나타내는 일반적인 용어가 아님을 이해하는 것이 중요합니다. 그분은 자신을 사람의 “아들 중 한 명”으로 묘사하신 것이 아니라 “인자”, 즉 다니엘서 7:13-14에 나오는 다니엘의 예언 중 인자라고 표현된 특정 단어를 말하는 것입니다. “내가 또 밤 환상 중에 보니 인자 같은 이가 하늘 구름을 타고 와서…”

하늘 구름을 타고 오는 “인자”에 대한 다니엘의 환상은 마태복음 26:59-66에 등장하는 대제사장 앞에서 재판을 받으시던 예수님의 선포와 밀접하게 연결되어 있습니다. 대제사장은 예수님께 그분이 그리스도, 하나님의 아들이신지 물었고, 예수님께서는 다음과 같이 답하셨습니다. “네가 말하였느니라 그러나 내가 너희에게 이르노니 이후에 인자가 권능의 우편에 앉아 있는 것과 하늘 구름을 타고 오는 것을 너희가 보리라 하시니”

대제사장은 즉시 예수님을 신성모독죄로 고발하고 옷을 찢으며 그분이 죽어 마땅하다고 선언했습니다. 공의회는 예수님이 사형에 처해져야 한다고 했습니다. 스스로를 “인자”라 부름으로써 예수님은 그리스도인 그분의 정체성을 실제로 주장하신 것입니다.

주님이 말씀하신 내용의 중요한 의미를 아는 유대인 회중에게 이 선포는 분명했습니다. “인자”는 그리스도에게 붙는 칭호였습니다. 예수님은 육신을 입은 하나님이시며, 우리의 위대한 하나님이시고, 우리를 위해 자신을 내어주신 구원자이십니다. 그분은 모든 불법에서 우리를 속량하시고 깨끗하게 하셔서 우리를 그분의 백성이 되게 하시고 선한 일들에 열정적이게 하셨습니다(딛 2:13-14).

THE MASTER’S CLAIM AS SON OF MAN

“The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?” (John 12:34).

In various instances, the Lord Jesus referred to Himself as “the Son of man,” and the Jewish people understood the profundity of those words. They knew that He claimed to be the Christ.

For example, in Matthew 8:20, He said, “…The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.” Also, in Mark 14:62, He said, “…I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” Luke 9:26 tells us, “For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed….”

However, it’s crucial to understand that in these various instances where Jesus referred to Himself as “the Son of man,” it wasn’t a generic term denoting His humanity. He wasn’t describing Himself as “a son” of man but as “the Son” of man, indicating a specific reference to Daniel’s prophecy in Daniel 7:13-14, “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven….”

Daniel’s vision of “the Son of man” coming with the clouds of heaven is closely connected to Jesus’ proclamation during His trial before the high priest in Matthew 26:59-66. The high priest had asked Jesus if He was the Christ, the Son of God, and He replied: “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven” (Matthew 26:64 NIV).

The high priest immediately accused Jesus of blasphemy, tore his clothes and declared that Jesus was worthy of death. The council agreed, affirming that Jesus should be condemned to death. By calling Himself “the Son of man,” Jesus was actually asserting His identity as the Christ.

This distinction was clear to the Jewish congregation who recognised the weighty implications of the Lord’s claim. The ‘son of Man’ was a title of the Christ. Jesus is God in human flesh, our great God and Saviour who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works (Titus 2:13-14).

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for revealing yourself to us as God in human flesh. I acknowledge and confess that you are the Christ, the embodiment of Deity, my Lord and my God, and the reason for my existence. Thank you for your everlasting love, grace and tender mercies. Hallelujah!

He’s Already “Lifted”

“내가 땅에서 들리면 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌겠노라 하시니 이렇게 말씀하심은 자기가 어떠한 죽음으로 죽을 것을 보이심이러라”(요 12:32-33)

때때로 그리스도인들은 영적으로 맞지 않는 찬송가나 노래를 부릅니다. 예를 들어, 어떤 사람들은 “우리는 예수님을 더 높이 찬양합니다” 또는 “우리는 예수님을 높이 올립니다!”라고 노래할 때 자신이 주님을 찬양하고 있다고 생각합니다. 당신은 이렇게 질문할 수도 있습니다. “목사님, 그게 무슨 문제인가요? 우리가 그분을 높일 수 없나요?”

비록 가사가 사람들을 그분께로 이끌기 위해 예수님을 높이는 것을 말하더라도 그런 해석은 예수님이 말씀하신 맥락을 간과합니다. 하나님의 말씀을 더 깊이 이해하려면 스스로 성경을 공부하고 아는 것이 중요합니다. 확대번역본은 다음과 같이 말합니다. “내가 땅에서 [십자가에서] 들리면 모든 사람(유대인과 이방인)을 내게로 끌어당겨 이끌겠노라. 이렇게 말씀하신 것은 그분께서 어떻게 죽으시는지 알려주려 하심이라.”(요 12:32-33)

디모데후서 2:15은 말합니다. “너는 진리의 말씀을 옳게 분별하며 부끄러울 것이 없는 일꾼으로 인정된 자로 자신을 하나님 앞에 드리기를 힘쓰라” 말씀을 공부한다면 경배하며 부를 바른 노래를 알 수 있습니다. 그러면 주님께서 원하시는대로 영과 진리로 그분을 찬양할 수 있습니다.

많은 사람이 올바른 지식 없이 무지 가운데 행하며 성경의 참된 메시지를 오해하고 있습니다. 그러므로 성경을 공부하며 하나님을 아는 지식을 부지런히 구하고 추구하십시오.

사랑하는 아버지, 내가 하나님의 말씀으로부터 받은 통찰력과 이해에 감사드립니다. 내 영을 빛으로 가득차게 하셔서 하나님의 말씀의 진리를 알고 그 가운데 행하며, 말씀을 내 삶과 상황에 바르게 적용하게 하시니 감사합니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

HE’S ALREADY “LIFTED”

“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. This he said, signifying what death he should die” (John 12:32-33).

Sometimes, Christians sing certain hymns or songs that don’t make spiritual sense. For example, some think they’re praising the Lord when they sing, “We fift Jesus higher” or “We lift Him up!” You might say, “But Pastor Chris, what’s wrong with that? Why can’t we lift Him up?”

First, He’s already in the highest and most exalted place in the heavenly realms; so, where else do you want to lift Him to? Secondly, if your inspiration to “lift Him up” or “lift Him higher” is coming from what He said in John 12:28-33, then you’ve completely misunderstood the context.

In those verses, the Lord spoke about the judgment of the world and the casting out of the prince of this world. Then in verse 32, He said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” The very next verse 33 captures exactly what He meant by that statement. It says, “This he said, signifying what death he should die.”

When Jesus spoke of being “lifted up,” He was referring to His crucifixion, not exaltation. Therefore, singing such hymns may inadvertently imply a call for Jesus to be crucified again, which goes against the very essence of the Faith.

Even if the lyrics suggest exalting Jesus to draw people to Him, such an interpretation overlooks the context of Jesus’ statement. It’s essential for you to study and know the Scriptures for yourself to gain a deeper understanding of God’s Word. You can read the same verses in the Amplified Classic version, which says, “And I, if and when I am lifted up from the earth [on the cross], will draw and attract all men [Gentiles as well as Jews] to Myself. He said this to signify in what manner He would die” (John 12:32-33 AMPC).

2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Studying the Word will help you know the right songs to sing in worship so you can praise the Lord in Spirit and in truth as He demands.

Without proper knowledge, many walk on in ignorance and misunderstand the true message of the Bible. Therefore, diligently seek and pursue the knowledge of God by studying the Scriptures.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the insight and understanding that I receive from your Word. Thank you for flooding my spirit with light to know and walk in the truth of your Word, rightly applying the Word to my life and circumstances, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
