“예수께서 제자들 앞에서 이 책에 기록되지 아니한 다른 표적도 많이 행하셨으나 오직 이것을 기록함은 너희로 예수께서 하나님의 아들 그리스도이심을 믿게 하려 함이요 또 너희로 믿고 그 이름을 힘입어 생명을 얻게 하려 함이니라”(요 20:30-31)
우리가 방금 읽은 오늘의 본문 구절은 매우 놀라운 사실을 알려줍니다. 성경에 기록된 예수님의 특별한 기적들은 한 가지 목적을 가지고 있습니다. 바로 예수님이 하나님의 아들 그리스도이심을 믿게 하려는 것입니다. “예수님이 그리스도이십니다”라는 말이 의미하는 바는 무엇입니까?
“그리스도”라는 단어는 그리스어에서 영어로 번역되었으며, 유대인들이 “메시아”로 이해한 내용을 정확히 담지는 못합니다. 이는 그리스인들이 왕국에 대한 메시지를 가지고 있지 않았기 때문입니다. 그러나 유대인들은 그리스도라는 단어가 기름부음 받은 자라는 말보다 더 많은 의미를 갖고 있음을 알았습니다. 그리스도란 실제로 육신 안에 계신 하나님을 의미합니다.
많은 사람들이 가볍게 받아들인 이 내용이 예수님을 죽인 것입니다. 예수님께서 하나님의 아들이라고 주장하셨기 때문입니다. 이는 그분께서 육신으로 나타난 하나님이라는 뜻입니다. 그리고 예수님이 옳았습니다. 바로 그것이 그리스도의 의미입니다. 마가복음 14:60-64에서 예수님께서 대제사장 가야바 앞에서 재판을 받으실 때 많은 거짓 증인들이 나서서 예수님을 고발했습니다. 그러나 그들의 증언은 상충하였습니다.
마침내 대제사장이 예수님께 직접 물었습니다. “… 네가 찬송 받을 이의 아들 그리스도냐”(막 14:61) 예수님께서 다음과 같이 대답하셨습니다. “… 내가 그니라 인자가 권능자의 우편에 앉은 것과 하늘 구름을 타고 오는 것을 너희가 보리라 하시니”(막 14:62) 대제사장은 분노하며 자신의 옷을 찢고, 예수님을 신성모독죄로 고발했습니다.
결과적으로 예수님께서는 사형선고를 받으셨습니다. 그들은 예수님을 강도죄로 고발했습니다. 하나님의 자리를 탈취했다는 것이었습니다. 그들은 “선한 일로 말미암아 우리가 너를 돌로 치려는 것이 아니라 신성모독으로 인함이니 네가 사람이 되어 자칭 하나님이라 함이로라”(요 10:33)고 말했습니다. 그러나 성경은 “그는 근본 하나님의 본체시나 하나님과 동등됨을 취할 것으로 여기지 아니하시고”(빌 2:6) 라고 말합니다.
요한복음 1:14은 말합니다. “말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하시매 우리가 그의 영광을 보니 아버지의 독생자의 영광이요 은혜와 진리가 충만하더라” 또한 디모데전서 3:16(한글 흠정역)은 말합니다. “하나님께서 육체 안에 나타나시고 성령 안에서 의롭게 되시고 천사들에게 보이시고 이방인들에게 선포되시고 세상에서 믿기시고 영광 속으로 올려져서 영접을 받으셨느니라.” 이 구절에서 설명하는 분이 바로 예수 그리스도이십니다. 할렐루야!
기도
사랑하는 주 예수님, 당신은 그리스도이십니다. 하나님께서 육체 안에 나타나시고, 성령 안에서 의롭게 되시고, 천사들에게 보이시고, 이방인들에게 선포되시고, 세상에서 믿기시고, 영광으로 올려져서 영접을 받으시고, 또 주님의 영광스러운 재림의 때에 곧 나타나실 것입니다. 주님은 유일하신 참 하나님이시므로 주의 이름이 내 삶에서 높아지고 열방에 선포됩니다. 아멘!

THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRIST
“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God…” (John 20:30-31).
What we just read points out something absolutely remarkable; it says the specific miracles of Jesus that are recorded in the Bible have a singular purpose: to engender belief in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God. What exactly does the expression “Jesus is the Christ” mean?
The word “Christ” was translated from the Greek language into English, and it doesn’t properly capture what the Jews understood as “The Messiah.” This is understandable, because the Greeks didn’t have the message of the Kingdom. So, the Jews knew that the word Christ meant far more than the Anointed One; it actually means God in the flesh.
This claim, which many take so lightly, was what they killed Jesus for. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, meaning that He was God’s manifestation in the flesh. And He was right. That’s the meaning of Christ. In Mark 14:60-64, during Jesus’ trial before the high priest Caiaphas, many false witnesses came forward with accusations against Him, but their testimonies didn’t align.
Finally, the high priest asked Jesus directly, “…Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” (Mark 14:61). Jesus responded, “…I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven” (Mark 14:62). The Chief Priest became furious and tore his clothes, and accused Jesus of blasphemy.
Consequently, Jesus was condemned to death. They accused Him of robbery; that is, robbing God of His place. They said, “For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God” (John 10:33). But the Bible says, “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God”; (Philippians 2:6); because He is Himself God
John 1:14 says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” 1 Timothy 3:16 says, “God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” That’s Jesus, the Christ. Hallelujah!
PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, you are the Christ; God manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory, and also soon to be revealed at your glorious return to earth. Your Name is exalted in my life and proclaimed in all the nations as the only true God. Amen!
