The Express Image Of His Person
“이로써 사랑이 우리에게 온전히 이루어진 것은 우리로 심판 날에 담대함을 가지게 하려 함이니 주께서 그러하심과 같이 우리도 이 세상에서 그러하니라”(요일 4:17)
오늘의 본문 구절을 읽은 후 생각해봐야 할 중요한 질문은 “아버지께서 예수님을 보내셨을 때, 예수님은 어떤 모습이셨는가?”입니다. 히브리서 1:3은 우리에게 “이는 하나님의 영광의 광채시요 그 본체의 형상이시라 그의 능력의 말씀으로 만물을 붙드시며 죄를 정결하게 하는 일을 하시고 높은 곳에 계신 지극히 크신 이의 우편에 앉으셨느니라.”고 설명합니다.
이 구절에서 주목해야 할 두 가지 문구는 “하나님의 영광의 광채”와 “그 본체의 형상”입니다. 예수님은 하나님의 영광의 광채, 즉 빛 혹은 찬란함이셨습니다. 예수님은 나타나실 때마다 그곳에 나타난 하나님의 영광이셨습니다. 또한 예수님은 아버지의 인격을 나타내는 형상이셨습니다.
하나님이 어떤 분이신지 알고 싶다면 예수님을 보면 됩니다. 예수님은 아버지에 대한 절대적인 묘사이며, 그분의 삶은 끝없는 영광이었습니다. 이제 예수님은 “아버지께서 나를 보내신 것 같이 나도 너희를 보내노라.”(요 20:21)고 말씀하십니다. 그리고 요한일서 4:17은 그분(예수님)이 그러하신 것과 같이 우리도 이 세상에서 그러하다고 말합니다.
이는 곧 예수님이 하나님의 영광의 광채이신 것처럼, 당신도 예수님의 영광의 광채라는 뜻입니다. 당신은 예수님과 마찬가지로 아버지 인격의 정확한 형상입니다. 이것은 종교적인 생각으로 이해하기에는 너무 고차원적이지만, 하나님께서 우리를 어떤 존재로 만드시고 그리스도 안에서 우리가 누구인지에 대한 진리입니다. 하나님께서는 우리를 온 세상으로 보내셔서 그분의 사랑, 친절, 본성, 성품을 나타내도록 하셨습니다.
예수님이 요한복음 15:5에서 하신 말씀을 기억하십시오. “나는 포도나무요 너희는 가지라…” 이는 우리가 동일한 생명을 가지고 있다는 뜻입니다. 또한 예수님은 우리에게 그분의 이름을 주셨으므로 우리는 똑같은 이름을 가지고 있습니다. 그분께 속한 것은 우리에게 속합니다. 우리는 “하나님의 상속자요 그리스도와 함께 한 상속자”(롬 8:17)입니다.
지금 절대적인 확신을 가지고 다음과 같이 선포하십시오. “나는 아버지 본체의 형상이다. 나는 하나님의 영광을 나타내고 드러낸다.” 할렐루야!
고백
나는 하나님의 상속자이며 그리스도와 함께한 공동 상속자입니다. 나는 주 예수님과 같은 생명을 소유하며 그분의 이름을 지닙니다. 따라서 나는 하나님의 사랑, 친절, 본성, 성품을 내 주변에 나타냅니다. 나는 그분의 질그릇으로서 나를 통해 그분의 영광이 빛나고 더욱 강렬하게 나타납니다. 나는 이 진리를 많은 사람에게 전달하며, 그들은 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 구원을 받아들입니다. 아멘.

THE EXPRESS IMAGE OF HIS PERSON
“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17).
An important question to ask after reading our opening verse is: What was Jesus like when the Father sent Him? The Bible gives us a description in Hebrews 1:3: “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
Two phrases to notice in this verse are: “the brightness of his glory” and “the express image of his person.” Jesus was the brightness—the effulgence or the outshining—of God’s glory. Each time He stepped out, He was the glory of God manifested. He was also the express image of the Father’s person.
If you wanted to know what God was like, you looked at Jesus. He was the absolute description of the Father, and His life was endlessly glorious. Now, Jesus says, “… as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you” (John 20:21). Then 1 John 4:17 tells us that as He (Jesus) is, so are we in this world.
This means that just as Jesus is the brightness of God’s glory, you’re the brightness of Jesus’ glory. You’re the express image of the Father’s person as Jesus. This is too lofty for the religious mind to grasp, but it’s one of the truths of who we are in Christ and what He’s made us. He sent us to go into all the world and express His love, kindness, nature and character.
Remember what He said in John 15:5, “I am the vine, ye are the branches….” That means we have the same life. He’s also given us His Name, so we have the same name. What belongs to Him belongs to us; we’re “…heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ…” (Romans 8:17).
Even now, declare with absolute confidence, “I’m the express image of the Father’s person. I reveal and unveil His glory.” Hallelujah!
CONFESSION
I’m an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ. I possess the same life and bear the same name as the Lord Jesus. Therefore, I manifest His love, kindness, nature, and character to the world around me, and as a vessel, His glory shines and is revealed through me with greater intensity. I bring the reality of this truth to many, and they accept the salvation that’s in Christ Jesus. Amen.
