Give Joyfully In Faith
“…각각 그 마음에 정한 대로 할 것이요 인색함으로나 억지로 하지 말지니 하나님은 즐겨 내는 자를 사랑하시느니라”(고후 9:6-7)
창세기 22장에 나오는 아브라함의 이야기는 오늘의 본문 구절에서의 바울의 말을 잘 이해하는 데 도움이 됩니다. 아브라함과 사라는 아이를 갖기 위해 수 년을 기다린 끝에 마침내 노년에 이삭을 낳았습니다. 그러나 어느 날 하나님은 아브라함에게 그의 유일한 아들 이삭을 제물로 바치라고 말씀하셨습니다(창 22:2).
아브라함이 이 말씀을 받고 실망했다고 말하는 몇몇 종교 서적과 영화가 있습니다. 그들은 아브라함이 마지못해, 불평으로 가득차서, 슬퍼하며, 그리고 후회로 가득차서 이삭을 드렸다고 생각합니다. 그렇지 않습니다. 아브라함은 믿음으로 행동했습니다.
성경이 아브라함을 믿음의 조상이라고 부르는 것을 기억하십시오. 그는 믿음의 사람이었고, 하나님이 이삭을 죽은 자 가운데서 살리실 수 있다는 자신의 믿음을 나타냈으며, 그 일은 정확히 그대로 일어났습니다. “아브라함은 시험을 받을 때에 믿음으로 이삭을 드렸으니 그는 약속들을 받은 자로되 그 외아들을 드렸느니라 그에게 이미 말씀하시기를 네 자손이라 칭할 자는 이삭으로 말미암으리라 하셨으니 그가 하나님이 능히 이삭을 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살리실 줄로 생각한지라 비유컨대 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 도로 받은 것이니라.”(히 11:17-19)
아브라함은 하나님을 전적으로 신뢰하고 기쁘게 이삭을 바쳤습니다. 소돔을 향한 주님의 심판이 임박했을 때에도 하나님께서 “내가 하려는 것을 아브라함에게 숨기겠느냐”(창 18:17-18)고 말씀하신 것은 놀라운 일이 아닙니다.
하나님은 그분의 계획에서 아브라함을 제외시키지 않으셨을 것입니다. 하나님은 아브라함 없이 일하지 않으셨을 것입니다. 이것이 바로 고린도후서 9:7에서 말하는 바입니다. “하나님은 즐거이(기쁘게, 즉각적으로) 내는 자[주는 것에 자신의 마음을 싣는 자]를 사랑하시느니라(기쁨으로 여기시느니라, 모든 것보다 귀히 여기시느니라, 무시하거나 없이 행할 수 없으시니라).”(확대번역본)
우리는 아브라함의 씨입니다. 아브라함과 같이 우리는 믿음으로 나눠줍니다. 우리는 즐거워하고 기뻐하며 “즉각적으로” 베푸는 자입니다. 우리는 마음을 다해 줍니다. 복음 전파를 위해 드리는 것은 언제나 과하지 않습니다. 나누어 주는 자의 결과는 곧 하나님의 왕국에서 더 없이 증가하는 위대함과 영향력의 삶입니다. 할렐루야!
고백
나는 복음 전파를 위해 기쁘게 드립니다. 그리고 주님께서는 나에게 모든 은혜를 허락하심과 같이 나의 의의 열매를 배가해주시고, 나는 모든 일에 넉넉하게 됩니다. 나를 통하여 복음이 나의 세상과 그 너머로 전파되어 많은 사람들이 감동을 받고 변화되어 하나님께 찬양과 영광을 돌립니다. 아멘.

GIVE JOYFULLY IN FAITH
“… Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver”(2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
The story of Abraham in Genesis 22 helps us to better understand Paul’s words in our opening scripture. After years of waiting to have a child, Abraham and Sarah eventually gave birth to Isaac in their old age. But one day, God asked Abraham to offer his only son, Isaac, as a sacrifice (Genesis 22:2).
I’m aware that there’re religious books and certain movies that highlight Abraham’s disappointment upon receiving that instruction. To them, he gave Isaac reluctantly, grudgingly, sorrowfully, and regretfully. No; he did it in faith.
Remember the Bible calls Abraham the father of faith; he was a man of faith and demonstrated his faith that God could raise Isaac from the dead, and symbolically, that’s exactly what happened: “By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son…Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure” (Hebrews 11:17-19).
Abraham trusted completely in the Lord and offered Isaac cheerfully. No wonder, in the Lord’s impending judgement against Sodom, He deliberated, “…Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do…?” (Genesis 18:17-18).
God wouldn’t, leave Abraham out of His plans; He wouldn’t do without him. That’s exactly what the Word says in 2 Corinthians 9:7 AMPC: “for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving].
We’re Abraham’s seed. Like him, we give in faith; we’re cheerful, joyous, “prompt to do it” givers. We give from the heart, and nothing is ever too much for us to put into the spread of the Gospel. The result is a life of ever-increasing greatness, relevance and impact in the Kingdom of God. Hallelujah!
CONFESSION
I give cheerfully for the propagation of the Gospel, and as a result, the Lord multiplies the fruits of my righteousness, even as He has made all grace available to me, to have all sufficiency in all things. Through me, the Gospel spreads in my world and in the regions beyond, with many lives touched and transformed to the praise and glory of God. Amen.
