Follow The Master’s Example
“말씀하시되 나를 따라오라 내가 너희를 사람을 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라 하시니”(마 4:19)
당신 삶의 모든 것은 예수 그리스도께 사람들을 이겨오는 것에 초점이 맞춰져야 합니다. 그리스도인에게 이보다 더 중요한 우선순위는 없습니다. 주 예수님조차도 영혼구원의 대가(Master)이셨습니다. 요한복음 4:6-42에서 그분은 사마리아의 우물에서 한 여자를 만나시고, 그녀와 대화를 나누시게 됩니다.
그 여자는 우물에 물을 길으러 왔습니다. 그녀의 이목을 끌기 위해 주님은 그녀의 관심사에 대해 이야기하기 시작하셨고, 그 주제는 바로 물이었습니다. 그녀가 주님께 온전히 주의를 기울이자 주님은 그 여자에게 증거하셨고, 그녀는 이를 믿고 다른 사람들에게 가서 자신이 그리스도를 만난 것을 말하였습니다.
마태복음 4장은 우리에게 또 다른 아름다운 이야기를 보여줍니다. 예수님이 어떻게 갈릴리 해변에 다니시다가 어부인 두 형제 곧 시몬 베드로와 그의 형제 안드레를 만나셨는지 말해줍니다. 예수님은 그들에게 말씀하셨습니다. “…나를 따라오라 내가 너희를 사람을 낚는 어부가 되게 하리라”(마 4:19).
주님은 항상 사람들에게 증거하기 위해 그들이 관심을 보이는 주제로 대화를 시작하는 방법을 알고 계셨습니다. 만약 당신이 사람들을 그리스도께로 이끌어 오기 위해 어떻게 대화를 시작해야 할지 모르겠다면, 영혼구원의 대가이신 주님의 전략을 모방하십시오. 그 사람들이 어떤 것에 관심을 두는지 관찰하여 그것을 이용해 대화를 시작하십시오.
당신은 사람들에게 그들이 손에 들고 있거나 읽고 있는 책에 대하여 설명해달라고 할 수도 있습니다. 그러고는 완전히 몰입해서 들으십시오. 그렇게 한다면, 당신이 그들에게 증거하기 시작할 때 그들 또한 당신에게 더욱 주의를 기울일 것입니다.
물론, 주님께서 당신이 증거해야 할 사람에 대해 구체적인 지시를 주실 수도 있습니다. 이때는 절대 물러나지 마십시오. 바로 가서 주님의 지시를 따르십시오. 그분이 특정한 시간과 장소에서 그렇게 하라고 말씀하시거나 영감을 주시는 것은 무엇이든지 역사합니다. 시편 81:10에서 그분은 이렇게 말씀하십니다. “…네 입을 크게 열라 내가 채우리라.” 언제나 담대하십시오. 그러면 주님께서 그분의 말씀을 당신 안에서 그리고 당신을 통하여 영화롭게 하실 것입니다.
기도
복되신 아버지, 내 안에 살고 계시며, 나를 그리스도의 신비의 유능한 청지기이자 일꾼으로 만드시는 성령님으로 인해 감사드립니다. 나는 오늘 나를 통해 구원받도록 준비된 사람들에게 그리스도를 전하기 위해 주어진 기회를 활용합니다. 그들은 어둠에서 빛으로 돌아오며 당신의 의 안에 세워집니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

FOLLOW THE MASTER’S EXAMPLE
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men (Matthew 4:19).
Everything about your life should focus on winning people to Jesus Christ; there’s no higher priority than that for the Christian. The Lord Jesus Himself was a Master soul winner. In John 4:6-42, He encountered a certain woman at the well of Samaria, and engaged her in a dialogue. The woman came to draw water from the well. But to get her attention, the Lord initiated a conversation with her on something that was of interest to her?the water.
Upon getting her full attention, the Master witnessed to the woman, who believed and went about telling others about her encounter with the Christ.
Matthew 4 tells us another beautiful story of how Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee and saw two brothers who were fishermen: Simon Peter and his brother, Andrew. He said to them, “…Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).
The Master always knew how to engage others in a conversation on a subject that was of interest to them, in a bid to witness to them. If you’ve often wondered how to engage people in a conversation in order to lead them to Christ, emulate the strategy of the Master. Observe what such people might be interested in, and initiate a conversation along that line.
You can ask that he or she explain something to you about a book or magazine they might be holding or reading, and then you listen with rapt attention.
If you do, they’re more likely to also give you their attention when you start witnessing to them.
Of course, there are times the Lord could give you specific instructions about someone you need to witness to. At such times, don’t negotiate; go right ahead and follow the Lord’s guidance. Whatever He tells or inspires you to say at that time and place, that do. He said in Psalm 81:10, “…open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.” Always be bold, and the Lord will honour His Word in and through you.
PRAYER
Blessed Father, I thank you for the Holy Spirit who lives within me, making me an able steward and minister of the mysteries of Christ. I take advantage of the opportunities I have today, to preach Christ to those whom you’ve ordained to receive salvation through me; they’re turned from darkness to light and established in your righteousness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
