“오 디모데야, 네게 맡겨진 것을 지키고, 비속하고 허황된 말장난과 거짓되이 일컬어지는 과학의 반론을 피하라.”(딤전 6:20, 한글킹제임스)
오늘의 본문 구절에 나온 “맡기다(trust)”라는 단어는 흥미로운 헬라어 단어 “파라데케(parakatatheke)”인데, 이는 기탁물 혹은 신탁된 물건을 의미합니다. 무언가가 당신 안에 맡겨진 것입니다. 당신은 자신을 구원한 메시지인 복음이 당신에게 맡겨졌다는 것을 깨달아야 합니다.
바울은 이것을 알았습니다. 그는 디모데전서 1:11에서 이렇게 주장했습니다. “이는 복되신 하나님의 영광스러운 복음을 따른 것이며, 이 복음은 내게 맡겨진 것이라”(한글킹제임스). 얼마나 대단한 의식입니까! 그는 복음을 자신의 책임으로 여겼습니다. 당신도 바울과 같은 의식을 가져야 합니다.
당신의 동업자, 직장 동료, 학교 친구, 가족, 공동 임차인, 친구 및 하나님께서 당신과 연결시키신 모든 사람들은 하나님으로부터 당신에게 맡겨진 사람들입니다. 그분은 당신이 그들에게 증인이 되게 하셨습니다. 당신은 당신이 속한 세대의 증인입니다. 당신은 당신의 세상에 있는 사람들에게 구원을 전달하기 위해 헌신해야 합니다. 그것이 진정한 성공입니다. 당신은 열매 맺는 가지가 되어 예수님께서 요한복음 15:5에서 말씀하신 바를 성취하게 됩니다. “나는 포도나무요 너희는 가지라.”
언제나 다음과 같이 선포하십시오. “나는 주 예수의 이름으로 열매 맺는 가지입니다! 나는 의의 열매를 맺고 의의 일들을 나타냅니다.” 이렇게 선포하고 그에 합당하게 행하십시오. 이것이 사도 바울이 오늘의 본문 구절을 통해 젊은 사역자인 디모데에게 전달한 내용입니다. 그에게 무엇이 맡겨졌는지를 의식하라는 것입니다.
당신은 하나님 왕국의 씨앗을 가지고 있습니다. 이것이 당신의 삶에서 가장 중요한 사역입니다. 예수님께서 하신 말씀을 기억하십시오. “그런즉 너희는 먼저 그의 나라와 그의 의를 구하라 그리하면 이 모든 것을 너희에게 더하시리라”(마 6:33). 이제 당신은 그분의 왕국 안에 있으므로 그분의 왕국이 당신에게 최우선이 되게 하십시오. 그러면 그분의 영광이 당신 안에서 그리고 당신을 통해 나타날 것입니다.

사랑하는 주님, 나를 당신의 영혼구원 동역자로 삼아 주시는 특권에 감사드립니다. 나를 충성되이 여겨 복음을 맡겨 주셨습니다. 죄인들을 의롭게 하고 가난한 자들을 어둠과 비참함에서 번영과 영광과 탁월함의 삶으로 쏘아 올리는 당신의 능력으로 인해, 내가 복음을 위해 얼마나 멀리 가고 또 무엇을 할 수 있는 지에는 한계가 없습니다. 나는 모든 곳에서, 모든 사람에게 담대하게 복음을 전하고 많은 사람들이 회심하게 됩니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

THE GOSPEL IS IN YOUR TRUST
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called (1 Timothy 6:20).
The word “trust” in the scripture above is an interesting Greek word, “parakatathēkē” and it means a deposit, the investment of your personality. Something has been deposited in you. You have to come to the realization that the Gospel, the same message that saved your life, has been committed to your trust.
Paul knew it. In 1 Timothy 1:11, he affirmed, “According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.” What a consciousness! He took personal responsibility for the Gospel. It should be the same with you.
Your co-workers, business associates, schoolmates, family members, co-tenants, friends and all those He ever connects you with are all hanging on to the trust committed to you by God. He holds you responsible as their witness; you’re the witness to your generation. You’ve got to be committed to bringing salvation to those in your world. That’s what success is. You become a fruit-producing branch, fulfilling what Jesus said in John 15:5: “I am the vine; ye are the branches….”
Always declare, “I’m a fruit-bearing branch, in the Name of the Lord Jesus! I bear fruits of righteousness and manifest works of righteousness.” Declare it, and act accordingly. That’s what the Apostle Paul was communicating to the young minister, Timothy, in our theme verse—the consciousness of what was committed to his trust.
You carry the seeds of the Kingdom of God inside you. That’s your number one ministry in life. Remember the words of Jesus: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33). Now that you’re in His Kingdom, make it your priority, and His glory will be manifested in and through you.
PRAYER
Dear Lord, thank you for the privilege of being your partner in soul-winning. You counted me faithful and committed the Gospel to my trust. There’ll be no limit to how far I’m willing to go and do for the Gospel, for it’s your power to make sinners righteous, to catapult the poor from obscurity and misery to a life of prosperity, glory and excellence. I preach it boldly everywhere and to everyone, and many are converted, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
