어둠을 밝히는 빛
LIGHT OUT OF DARKNESS
“태초에 하나님이 천지를 창조하시니라 땅이 혼돈하고 공허하며 흑암이 깊음 위에 있고 하나님의 영은 수면 위에 운행하시니라 하나님이 이르시되 빛이 있으라 하시니 빛이 있었고”(창1:1-3)
심해 깊은 곳에 들어가본다면, 물 속에서 볼 수 있는 유일한 빛(인공 조명이 없는 경우)은 수면 위에서 비춰지는 빛입니다. 성경은 우리에게 태초에 온 땅이 어둠 가운데 있었고 수면 위에 있던 “빛”도 어둠이었다고 알려줍니다.
그러나 고린도후서 4:6은 하나님께서 상황을 어떻게 바꾸셨는지 알려줍니다. “어두운 데에 빛이 비치라 말씀하셨던 그 하나님께서 예수 그리스도의 얼굴에 있는 하나님의 영광을 아는 빛을 우리 마음에 비추셨느니라.” 빛은 천국으로부터 오지 않았습니다. 천국에는 어둠 자체가 없었기 때문입니다. 빛은 하나님으로부터 나오지도 않았습니다. 그분 안에는 어떠한 어둠도 없기 때문입니다. 빛은 이 땅의 어둠 가운데서 나타났습니다.
이 이야기는 1934년 일부 과학자들의 놀라운 발견(음향발광 실험)을 떠올리게 합니다. 그들은 물 속에서 거품을 만든 다음, 거품을 향해 음파를 쏘아서 거품을 붕괴시키도록 하였습니다. 그러면 이 거품은 어떤 형태의 내부 파괴로 의해 터져버려야 했습니다. 그런데 이 거품이 터졌을 때, 빛이 나왔습니다. 과학자들은 충격을 받았습니다. 어떻게 이런 일이 일어날 수 있었습니까?
이 놀라운 사실을 발견할 즈음, 그들은 다른 실험을 진행하고 있었습니다. 1989년에 비슷한 실험이 진행되었고, 이번엔 단 하나의 거품을 만들어 이 현상을 좀 더 명확히 관찰하고자 했습니다. 그들은 과연 음파가 물 속에 있는 거품을 터뜨릴 수 있으며 빛이 만들어지는 것이 가능한 것인지에 대해 의문을 가졌습니다.
더 많은 실험이 진행되었고 이것은 사실로 밝혀졌습니다. 음파가 폭발하는 거품을 자극하면 빛이 뿜어져 나왔습니다. 그 과학자들은 오늘의 본문 구절에서 읽었듯이 태초에 하나님께서 어떻게 혼돈스러운 어둠의 세상에 형태와 질서를 세우셨는지 발견했습니다. 하나님은 말씀하셨고, 그분의 말(말씀)이 음파를 창조해냈습니다.
우리가 말할 때, 우리는 에너지를 내뱉습니다. 그리고 이 에너지는 음파의 형태로 나옵니다. 그래서 하나님께서 “빛이 있으라”고 말씀하셨을 때, 에너지가 방출되어 깊은 물의 어두움에서 빛이 나왔습니다. 이 말씀은 우리에게 무엇을 알려줍니까? 오늘 말씀은 만물의 모든 근원이 하나님의 말씀임을 알려줍니다. 할렐루야!
고백

LIGHT OUT OF DARKNESS
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (Genesis 1:1-3).
If you ever went underwater, the only light that you have in the water (if there’s no artificial lighting) is the light that’s coming from above the water. Now, the Bible says the whole earth was in darkness, and the “light” that was above the water was darkness.
But 2 Corinthians 4:6 tells us how God changed the situation. He commanded the light to shine out of the darkness: “But God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness hath shined in our hearts….” The light didn’t come from heaven, because in heaven there’s no darkness at all. The light didn’t come out of God, because in Him there’s no darkness at all; the light came out of the darkness in the earth.
It brings to mind an amazing discovery by some scientists in 1934 (the sonoluminescence experiment). They created bubbles inside water and then activated sound waves towards the bubbles to collapse the bubbles. These bubbles were supposed to collapse by some form of implosion. When the bubbles imploded, light was emitted. They were in shock. How could that be?
They were experimenting for something else when they happened upon this amazing discovery. In 1989, similar experiments were carried out, this time, with a single bubble so this particular phenomenon could be observed more clearly. Is it possible that sound waves would cause bubbles underwater or liquids to implode, and light would result? They wondered.
Further experiments were carried out, and it was found to be so: light was emitted when sound waves were excited against imploding bubbles. Those scientists only found out what God did in the beginning in bringing form and order to a chaotic world of darkness as read in our opening scripture: He spoke, and His (words) speech created sound waves.
When we talk, we release energy, and this energy goes out in form of sound waves. So when God said, “Let there be light,” energy was released and light came out of the darkness in the water. What’s this telling us? It lets us know that the original source material for everything is God’s Word. Hallelujah!

There’re no uncertainties and confusion in my path, because Christ is my light, my wisdom, and my strength.
