Examine What You Hear
“사랑하는 친구 여러분, 들려오는 말을 다 믿지 마십시오. 사람들이 여러분에게 하는 말을 신중히 생각하고 따져 보십시오. 하나님에 대해 이야기한다고 해서 모두가 하나님에게서 난 사람은 아닙니다. 수많은 거짓 설교자들이 이 세상을 활보하고 있습니다.”(요일 4:1, 메시지성경)
로마서 13:1을 인용하며 권위자가 시킨 일이라면 무엇이든지 해야 한다고 생각하는 사람들이 있습니다. 그들은 이렇게 말합니다. “그는 유명한 지도자입니다. 그가 말하는 내용은 진리일 것입니다.” 그러나 그 구절은 위와 같은 식으로 적용하는 것이 아닙니다.
먼저 그 구절을 제대로 살펴봅시다. “각 사람은 위에 있는 권세들에게 복종하라 권세는 하나님으로부터 나지 않음이 없나니 모든 권세는 다 하나님께서 정하신 바라”(롬 13:1). 오늘의 본문 구절은 우리에게 영들을 시험해보라고 말합니다. 그렇기 때문에 당신이 그냥 누군가를 받아들이거나 누군가가 말한 대로 행하면 안 되는 것입니다. 그 권위가 어디에서 왔는지 살펴보십시오. 그 권위가 사탄에게서 온 것일 수도 있으므로 조심해야 합니다.
하나님이 어느 지도자를 선택하실 수 있지만, 그 지도자는 하나님을 대적할 수 있습니다. 성경에는 하나님께 택함 받았음에도 불구하고 하나님을 대적한 사람들의 예시가 가득합니다. 사울왕의 이야기를 예로 들면, 사무엘상 15장에서 사무엘 선지자는 사울왕에게 아주 분명한 지시를 전달했습니다. 사울왕은 아말렉과 전쟁을 하고 그들과 관련된 모든 것을 하나도 남김 없이 진멸해야 했습니다!
사울은 지시 받은 대로 나갔고 승리를 거두었습니다. 그는 가치 없고 하찮은 것들은 진멸했지만, 좋아 보이는 것들은 남겨두었습니다. 그는 아각을 살려 두었고, 양 떼와 소 떼 가운데서도 가장 좋은 것들은 남겨두었습니다. 그에 대해 하나님은 어떻게 반응하셨습니까?
하나님은 사무엘 선지자에게 말씀하셨습니다. “내가 사울을 세워 왕을 삼은 것을 후회하노니, 이는 그가 나를 따르는 것에서 돌이켜 내 계명을 이행하지 아니하였음이라”(삼상 15:11, 한글킹제임스). 이는 모든 지도자가 하나님께 순종하거나 옳은 일을 하고 싶어 하는 것은 아니라는 사실을 보여줍니다.
모든 것을 하나님의 말씀의 빛 아래 있게 하십시오. 데살로니가전서 5:21은 말합니다. “범사에 헤아려 좋은 것을 취하고.” 권위 있는 자가 당신에게 말한 내용이 좋았다고 해서 그것이 꼭 하나님께로부터 온 것은 아닙니다. 하나님의 말씀이 모든 것을 판단하는 최고 권위라는 것을 항상 기억하십시오.
또한 지도자들은 하나님의 말씀에 귀 기울이는 것이 중요합니다. 그분이 원하시는 바를 발견하고 그분의 뜻을 행하십시오. 타협하기를 거절하십시오. 당신의 정책이 하나님과 사람들에게 좋은 것인지 점검하십시오.
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 누구의 지시이든 상관없이 나는 그 지시가 말씀의 진리에 일치하는지 의식적으로 살펴봅니다. 나는 나에게 생명, 빛, 방향성, 목적을 주는 당신의 명령과 반대되는 방향으로 가는 것을 거절합니다. 내 발걸음은 말씀과 성령을 통해 당신을 따릅니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

Examine What You Hear
My dear friends, don’t believe everything you hear. Carefully weigh and examine what people tell you. Not everyone who talks about God comes from God. There are a lot of lying preachers loose in the world (1 John 4:1 MSG).
There’re those who quote Romans 13:1 and assume they should do whatever they’re told to do, as long as the one giving such instructions is a person of authority. They’d say, “He’s a renowned leader; therefore, he must be speaking the truth”; but that’s not how it works.
First, let’s review that scripture properly; it says,
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers.
For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” (Romans 13:1). Our opening verse tells us to test the spirits. That’s why you don’t just run with, or do whatever you’re told by just anybody;
examine where that authority is coming from. It could be from Satan. So, you have to be careful.
God can choose a leader, and the leader can go rogue against God. The Scripture is replete with examples of those that went against God, even though they were chosen of God. Let’s take the story of King Saul as a case study. In 1 Samuel 15, Samuel the prophet gave very definite instructions to King Saul. He was to go to war against Amalek and destroy everything connected to them, with no exceptions! Saul went out as instructed, and had the victory.
He utterly destroyed all that was despised and worthless, but spared what he deemed choice and valuable. Not only did he spare Agag, the king, he also spared the best of the sheep and oxen, and all that was good. What was God’s response?
He said to Samuel the prophet, “I regret making Saul king, for he has turned back from following Me and has not performed My commands…” (1 Samuel 15:11 AMPC). This shows that not every leader listens to God or wants to do what’s right.
Therefore subject all things to the light of God’s Word. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says, “Prove all things;
hold fast that which is good.” Just because you felt good about what someone of authority told you doesn’t mean it was from God. Always remember that God’s Word is the supreme authority by which we judge all things.
Also, to the leaders, it’s important you listen to God. Find out what He wants, and do His will. Refuse to compromise. Examine your policies to be sure they’re good for God and for people.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I consciously weigh every instruction against the truth of the Word, irrespective of who gives it. I refuse to go contrary to your Word, which gives life, light, direction and purpose to me. My steps are ordered by you, through the Word and your Spirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
