겸손과 위대함
HUMILITY AND GREATNESS
“그러나 더욱 큰 은혜를 주시나니 그러므로 일렀으되 하나님이 교만한 자를 물리치시고 겸손한 자에게 은혜를 주신다 하였느니라”(약 4:6)
예수님은 그분의 가르침을 통해 겸손을 보여주셨습니다. 예수님이 침례 받으실 때가 되었을 때, 그분은 하나님의 아들이셨음에도 불구하고, 자신이 침례 요한보다 더 낫다고 생각하지 않으셨습니다. 오히려 그분은 말씀이 성취되도록 하셨습니다. (마태복음 3:13-15을 읽어보십시오.) 이는 진정으로 위대한 사람들은 겸손하고 오직 하나님의 말씀을 성취하는 것에만 동기부여되기 때문입니다. 그러한 사람들은 하나님의 방식대로 행하며 섬기는 일에 고무됩니다.
예수님은 제자들에게 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “너희 가운데 누구든지 크게 되고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되어야 하고”(마 20:26, 한글킹제임스) 그분은 이것을 말로 하셨을 뿐만 아니라, 제자들의 발을 씻겨 주는 행동으로 보여주셨습니다. “너희는 나를 선생이라 또 주라 부르니 너희 말이 옳도다. 이는 내가 그렇기 때문이라. 내가 너희 주와 선생으로 너희 발을 씻겼으니 너희도 서로의 발을 씻겨 주는 것이 마땅하니라. 진실로 진실로 내가 너희에게 말하노니, 종이 자기 주인보다 더 위대하지 못하며 보냄을 받은 사람이 보낸 사람보다 더 위대하지 못하니라. 너희가 이런 일을 알고, 그것들을 행하면 복이 있느니라.”(요 13:13-17, 한글킹제임스)
우리는 빌립보서 2장에서 그분의 비교할 수 없는 겸손을 다시금 확인합니다. 그분은 하나님이셨지만 자신을 겸손하게 낮추시고 우리를 대신하여 죄인으로 죽으셨습니다. 그러나 그분의 겸손의 결과를 보십시오. “이로 인하여 하나님께서는 그를 지극히 높이시고 모든 이름 위에 있는 한 이름을 그에게 주사 하늘에 있는 것이나 땅 위에 있는 것이나 땅 아래 있는 것이나 모든 무릎을 예수의 이름에 꿇게 하시고 모든 혀가 예수 그리스도를 주라 시인하여 하나님 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하셨느니라.”(빌 2:9-11, 한글킹제임스)
빌립보서 2:5은 말합니다. “너희 안에 이 마음을 품으라 곧 그리스도 예수의 마음이니.” 이는 그분의 겸손을 따라 행하라는 의미입니다. 이것이 위대함으로 가는 길입니다. 다른 지름길은 없습니다. 겸손이 위대함으로 가는 길입니다. 교만은 패망의 선봉이지만 겸손은 앞으로 전진하게 합니다.
기도
사랑하는 하나님 아버지, 말씀에 대한 계시를 주셔서 감사드립니다. 나는 말씀의 산물입니다. 나는 위로만 앞으로만 가는 위대함의 여정을 안내하는 당신의 은혜를 인식하며 겸손과 사랑 가운데 행합니다. 주 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

HUMILITY AND GREATNESS
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble (James 4:6).
When Jesus walked the earth, He demonstrated humility. When it was time
for Him to be baptized, He didn’t feel superior to John the Baptist, even though He was the Son of God. Rather, He allowed the Scriptures to be fulfilled (Read Matthew 3:13-15 NKJV). That’s because truly great people are humble and motivated by one thing only: fulfilling God’s Word; doing things God’s way. They’re also inspired to serve.
Jesus said to His disciples, “Whoever must be great amongst you, must have the heart of a servant” (Matthew 20:26). Not only did He say this to them, He acted it by washing the feet of His disciples. Then He explained His action, saying, “You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them” (John 13:13-17 NKJV).
In Philippians 2, we read again about His unparalleled humility. Though He was Himself God, He humbled Himself and died a criminal’s death in our behalf. But see the result of His humility: “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV). Hallelujah!
Philippians 2:5 says, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”; meaning, emulate His humility. It’s the pathway to greatness; there’re no shortcuts. Pride goes before a fall, but humility promotes.
PRAYER
Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the enlightenment of the Scriptures. I’m a product of your Word, and I walk in humility and love, conscious of your grace that pilots me in my upward and forward journey of greatness, in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
